The defeat in the World Championship quarter-finals means that Denmark will finish outside the top four at one of the major championships for the first time since the disappointing World Championship in Japan in 2019.
In fact, it was already difficult to see from the beginning of the match how Denmark would break down the French defense.
In goal, Anna Kristensen struggled from the start and after ten minutes she had to take a seat on the bench without a single save. Amalie Milling took over, but couldn't improve the Danish defense.
The two goalkeepers also didn't get much help from the Danish defense who couldn't contain the French baseline player and the otherwise reliable defense general Line Haugsted had to be benched after 11 minutes.
The Danish attack didn't fare much better as technical mistakes prevented the Danes from testing the French keeper.
The French defense must, however, be praised for their aggressiveness and the Danes often lost the physical duels even though they earned a number of free throws and at the break Denmark were behind 12-17.
The beginning of the second half featured completely different tactics from Denmark. Defensively, the Danish central defense was better organized, and the French suddenly had to work much harder for the goals than in the first half.
Denmark limited the gap to two goals but then "Les Bleues" recovered their stylish stride as Helena Elver took a two-minute suspension for a wrongful substitution and France punished it resolutely.
In the end, the Danish women looked visibly deflated and the French scored at will until the final whistle.
