The former director of Aalborg Pirates will not have to go to prison despite being found guilty of document forgery. Lars Laursen has instead been given a three-month suspended sentence and 80 hours of community service.

Former Aalborg Pirates director Lars Laursen has been handed a three month suspended sentence and 80 hours of community service for having embellished club's accounts.

With Lars Laursen already having confessed his wrongdoings, it was therefore just a question of the size of the sentence when the case was wrapped up today.

The judge found it aggravating that Lars Laursen held a trusted position as the company's director.

"I am satisfied with the verdict", says Mette Vestergaard, special prosecutor at the North Jutland Police, to TV2 Nord.

It's almost a year since Lars Laursen was suspended as director of the successful ice hockey club after 3.5 years on the post after forging club accounts.

During the trial, it emerged that Lars Laursen had drawn up a fake sponsorship agreement between Aalborg Pirates and Sparekassen Danmark.

The fake sponsorship agreement, which allegedly was set up to cover poor finances, appeared to be worth 1,95 million Danish kroner (around 270,000 EUROS) but in reality it was only worth 450,000 kroner (60,000 EUROs).

When the board discovered the poor financial situation, they initiated a major clean-up effort, which ultimately concluded that somewhere between four and five million Danish kroner was missing (around 600,000 EUROs).
