On what was a busy night of National Hockey League (NHL) action, an all-Original Six clash was the highlight of the games.

Detroit Red Wings 5-4 Boston Bruins

The night's most dramatic game came in Michigan, where the Detroit Red Wings topped their Original Six rivals Boston Bruins 5-4. A pair of first period goals saw the hosts go up 2-0, with James Van Riemsdyk and Moritz Seider getting on the board.

Alex DeBrincat notched his 13th of the season a minute and a half after intermission, adding to the lead. Finding themselves 3-0 down early on, the Bruins finally got on the board. Jonathan Aspirot made the most of a chance to give his team hope.

Alex Steeves reduced the Bruins' deficit to just one, only to concede 37 seconds later via Ben Chiarot. The Red Wings again went back up by three goals, as Lucas Raymond scored a power play with 16:05 left in the contest.

Boston, who changed goaltenders after going down 5-2. sprung back to life while trying to force overtime. Marat Khusnutdinov got one back, before Steeves added his second of the night with 12 seconds left. Unfortunately for them, it was too little, too late for the guests, who fell to defeat.

The Red Wings put their four-game losing skid to an end, vaulting them back into ninth spot in the Eastern Conference. They went ahead of the Bruins, although the sides are now on the same number of points.

Montreal Canadiens 2-5 Ottawa Senators

Despite going down early, the Ottawa Senators got the better of their Canadian rivals Montreal Canadiens 5-2. The Habs had went in front through Juraj Slafkovsky via a power play 3:37 in. The advantage barely lasted 30 seconds, as Fabian Zetterlund tied things up.

Artyom Zub then gave the Sens the lead towards the end of the frame. The team from the Canadian capital doubled their goal tally on the night within the first seven minutes of the second period. Jake Sanderson and Drake Batherson's markers did further damage to the Habs, who found themselves in a bigger pickle.

Nick Suzuki's power play goal gave the hosts hope. However, the Habs, who had 31 attempts in the game, could not find another goal. Brady Tkachuk completed the scoring on the night, giving the Sens an impressive win.

It is consecutive losses for the Habs, who slipped to 12th in the conference. As for Ottawa, their ninth regular-season win helped them move up to eighth and final place in the East.
