Friday had two games in the National Hockey League, with the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues coming out on top against the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers, respectively. Here is a look back at both games.

New York Islanders 2-3 Los Angeles Kings

The New York Islanders fell 3-2 at home to the Los Angeles Kings, ending a two-game winning streak.

It was a fast start for the Kings, who raced to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Trevor Moore just needed three and a half minutes to put his team in front. Anze Kopitar doubled their advantage midway through the frame, before Adrian Kempe added a third to put his team in a commanding position.

The Islanders would not get on the board until 10:46 into the second. Emil Heineman gave his side hope with his marker to reduce the deficit to two. The Swede netted his second of the game early in the third to make it an exciting. However, neither he nor his New York team-mates could find a third goal to level the score.

Los Angeles have jumped into a playoff position with the win, moving ahead of the San Jose Sharks. As for the Islanders, they remain two points ahead of the Boston Bruins as they hope to hold onto their postseason berth.

St. Louis Blues 3-2 Edmonton Oilers (OT)

In St. Louis, the Blue overturned a 2-0 deficit to get the better of the visiting Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in overtime.

Kasperi Kapanen put the visitors in front with 4:19 left in the opening period. Team captain Connor McDavid made it 2-0 just before the midpoint of the second frame, putting the Oilers in a great position for a third win in four games.

But, back came the Blues. Pius Suter and Cam Fowler got on the board before the end of the period to tie the game. A lively third period saw both teams have the chance to get the go-ahead goal, but no one was able to finish their chance.

It seemed like overtime was going to end the same way, as for much of the five minutes, neither side could find the back of the net. Then, with nine seconds left, Robert Thomas scored the winner to give the home fans something to celebrate.

The Blues have now won two straight as they keep their playoff hopes alive in the Western Conference, sitting five points back of the Kings for the last place. It is consecutive defeats for the Oilers, who remain seventh. Their 231 goals conceded is the second most in the conference, only behind the Vancouver Canucks with 241.
