NHL roundup: Sidney Crosby becomes 21st player to reach 600 goals, Stutzle hits 100

A major slate of NHL games proved to be a goal-scoring festival as Sidney Crosby (37) scored his 600th career goal, Tim Stutzle (22) earned his 100th, and the Capitals lost their first game of the season without Alexander Ovechkin (39).

Despite the Penguins losing to the Utah Hockey Club in a 6-1 blowout, Pittsburgh's one goal coming at the hands of Crosby's 600th career goal left fans finding a silver lining. 

Right winger Dylan Guenther's two goals - seven on the year - came on power plays, leading Utah to their eighth win of the season. The other four goals were scored by Jack McBain (6), Mikhail Sergachev (5), Nick Bjugstad (4), and Alexander Kerfoot (3). The Penguins fall to a Metropolitan division worst 7-12-4 while the Utah Hockey Club improves to 8-9-3.

Flames 4 Wild 3

The Calgary Flames took home a 4-3 win against the Minnesota Wild after the teams went to a shootout. Rasmus Andersson scored the shootout winner for the Flames, marking the current league's-best fourth straight win.

Kevin Rooney (2) got the Flames started off with a goal then Martin Pospisil (2) and Yegor Sharangovich (4) scored a pair of power-play goals. 

Marcus Johansson (3), Brock Faber (3, PP), and Marco Rossi (6) all scored for the Wild. Center Frederick Gaudreau scored the Wild's only goal in the shootout while opposing centre Justin Kirkland scored first for the Flames before Andersson sealed it with a win.

Blue Jackets 5 Hurricanes 4

The Columbus Blue Jackets came out with a 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in a shootout. Centre Sean Monahan scored the lone shootout goal for the Blue Jackets, giving Columbus their third straight win. Kirill Marchenko led the team with two goals alongside goals from Dante Fabbro (2) and Dmitri Voronkov (5, PP).

The Hurricanes dropped their second straight game despite goals from Jack Roslovic (12), Jalen Chatfield (2), Sebastian Aho (6, PP), and Jackson Blake (6). 

Flyers 3 Blackhawks 2

The Philadephia Flyers took home a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks after an overtime game-winning goal from Matvei Michkov (7) during a power play. Lukas Reichel (2) and Patrick Maroon (1) got the Blackhawks out to a 2-0 lead before Sean Couturier (4) and Noah Cates (1) tied it up in the third period to send it to OT. The Flyers improve to 9-10-2 while the Blackhawks fall to 7-12-2. 

Devils 3 Capitals 2

The Washington Capitals dropped their first game since Alexander Ovechkin was sidelined with a broken fibula. The Devils outscored the Caps 3-2, improving to a 14-7-2 record and leading the Metropolitan division, while the Caps fall to 13-6-1. Tomas Tatar (3, PP), Brenden Dillon (1), and Dougie Hamilton (3, PP) scored for the Devils while Matt Roy (1) and Connor McMichael (13) put it in the net for the Caps. 

Kings 2 Kraken 1

The Los Angeles Kings held off the Seattle Kraken in a 2-1 win despite a late goal from Brandon Montour (6). Kings' right winger Adrian Kemp scored his 10th goal of the season in the second period with teammate Quinton Byfield (3) scoring two minutes later. The Kings improve to 11-7-3 while the Kraken fall to 10-10-1.

Avalanche 7 Panthers 4

The Colorado Avalanche went goal-crazy in their 7-4 win over the defending Stanley Cup champions. Jonathan Drouin (2) scored the first two goals of the game for the Avs, with goals followed by teammates Logan O'Connor (2), Samuel Girard (2), Mikko Rantanen (14), Oliver Kylington (1), Valeri Nichushkin (1). Meanwhile, Carter Verhaeghe (5), Aleksander Barkov (4), Sam Reinhart (16, PP), and Anton Lundell (7) scored for the Florida Panthers

The Avalanche improve to 12-9-0 while the Panthers fall to 12-8-1. 

Bruins 2 Red Wings 1

The Boston Bruins won 2-1 over the Detroit Red Wings, with goals by Justin Brazeau (5, PP) and Brad Marchand (6). The Red Wings scoring struggles continued as Lucas Raymond (4) scored the team's lone goal. Detroit's 49 goals on the year are only second-fewest to the Anaheim Ducks (48). Boston improve to 10-9-3 while Detroit fall to 8-10-2. 

Knights 6 Canadiens 2

The Las Vegas Golden Knights scored five straight goals starting in the second period that led to their 6-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Tomas Hertl (8), Callahan Burke (1), Ivan Barbashev (9), Tanner Pearson (4), and Keegan Kolesar (6) all scored in the second before the Canadiens finally got on the board in the third period with goals from Emil Heineman (4, PP) and Jayden Struble (1). But Jack Eichel (7) closed it out with the Knight's final goal. 

The Knights improve to a 13-6-2 record as they head the Pacific division while the Canadiens fall to 7-11-2 on the season, sitting dead last in the Atlantic division.

Predators 4 Jets 1

The Nashville Predators scored three straight goals in the third period to take a 4-1 victory over the league's number-one team the Winnipeg Jets. Roman Josi (4) scored the first and final goal of the game for the Predators, while Steven Stamkos (7, PP) and Jonathan Marchessault (4) scored the other pair. Adam Lowry (4) scored the lone goal for the Jets. 

This is only the fourth game of the season where the Jets scored less than three goals as they fall to 17-4-0 on the season. Nashville improve to 7-11-3 on the season as they're still at the bottom of the Central division with the Blackhawks.

Canucks 4 Senators 3

The Vancouver Canucks hold on to a 4-3 win despite two late goals from the Ottawa Senators. Jake DeBrusk (5) scored two goals for the Canucks while Teddy Blueger (4) and Kiefer Sherwood (6) scored the other pairs. Brady Tkachuk (10, PP) got the Sens started in the second period with a goal, but the two from Claude Giroux (6, PP) and Tim Stutzle's (9) 100th career goal weren't enough.

The Canucks improve to 10-6-3 on the season while the Senators fall to 8-11-1.

Stars 4 Lightning 2

The Dallas Stars managed two late goals in the third period to take a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Evgenii Dadonov (6) and Miro Heiskanen (3) got on the board for Dallas while Anthony Cirelli (7) scored the Lightning's two lone goals before Matt Duchene (11) and Roope Hintz (8) put the game out of reach for the Stars.

Dallas improves to 13-6-0 while the Lightning fall to 10-7-2.

Islanders 3 Blues 1

The New York Islanders snapped their three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. Kyle Palmieri (9) scored two goals for the Islanders with Brock Nelson (8) scoring the other. Jake Neighbours (7) scored the lone goal for the Blues, making it the team's  12th game scoring two goals or less. Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin had his first one-goal-against game since the team's October 22nd game against the Red Wings.

The Islanders improve to 8-8-5 on the season while the Blues fall to 9-12-1.

Sabres 4 Sharks 2

The Buffalo Sabres scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take home a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. Fabian Zetterlund (8) and Luke Kunin (4) scored a pair of goals for the Sharks, but the goals from Peyton Krebs (3), Dylan Cozens (4), Alex Tuch (7), Rasmus Dahlin (6), proved to be too much. 

The Sabres improve to 11-9-1 while the Sharks fall to the league's worst record at 6-12-5, losing three straight.
