Most productive player
American forward Matthew Tkachuk of Florida stood out during the week against Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and San Jose and his points average ended up at a whopping 3.6.
He notched 2+2 against the Pens and even 1+4 against the Flyers. The current NHL champions scored fourteen goals in three games and Tkachuk was a part of all but three of them, incredibly.
Goaltender of the week
Goaltender Adin Hill didn't have it easy last week as he was in goal against Dallas and Edmonton, two teams that faced off in the Stanley Cup Finals back in the spring.
However, the Vegas goalie is no rookie. The 2021 world champion kept out 28 shots from Edmonton for the ninth shutout of his career, while he conceded just twice from 40 shots from Dallas. His combined save percentage was an impressive 97.1%.
Highlight of the week
Tom Wilson is one of the last true warriors in the NHL who resembles an old-school player. On Saturday against Montreal, the Washington forward showed that he can't be stopped by anything.
In the first period, which the Capitals lost 0-2, he took a blow to the face with the puck but returned to the ice.
His face swelled up badly during the game but that didn't get the Canadian giant off the ice. He scored twice, was the star of the game and helped Washington, surprisingly enough, to the top of the NHL.
In the locker room, Wilson was warmly congratulated and, of course, copped a few teases from his teammates.
"When he came back to the bench, he was kind of bigger than normal," forward Dylan Strome said jokingly in a post-game interview.
"It's cool that Tom has a big head. You almost don't notice it," goalie Logan Thompson added.
Stat of the week
Having the No. 1 and No. 2 picks of the 2015 NHL Draft and two superstars - Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel - playing against each other didn't turn into the spectacle everyone expected...
Tuesday's game between Vegas and Edmonton ended 1-0, and according to the stats, was only the fifth game in history in which just one goal was scored and no one was ejected from the ice.
Social media highlight
Anaheim acquired defenseman Jacob Trouba as part of a trade with the New York Rangers this week, and his hits have often gone well beyond the rules in recent years.
Ducks captain Radko Gudas is already famous for dishing out hard hits so hockey commentator Rob Gucci made this interesting point...
"If I’m playing against the Anaheim Ducks with Gudas and Trouba on the backend, I’m legitimately asking my agent to see if the league will let me wear a motorcycle helmet during the game" he quipped online.
Photo of the week
An offensive trio that terrorized the league nearly 20 years ago - Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza - reunited in Ottawa last week.
"They were incredibly competitive. And leaders in every situation," recalled their longtime teammate Chris Neil.
"Time flies so fast," another former teammate, Antoine Vermette, remarked to NHL.com.
