The Dallas Stars will be heading back to the Western Conference Finals for a third-straight year after taking down the NHL's best Winnipeg Jets in overtime during Game 6 on Saturday night.

After what was one heck of a goalie battle, the Stars prevailed in the end, 2-1, thanks to a costly penalty that rolled over into overtime.

The Stars will now be squaring off against the Edmonton Oilers - a rematch of last year's WCF.

So, let's go down period by period all the way to the game-winning goal in this recap!

1st Period

Not much went on in the first as goaltenders for both teams wouldn't give an inch.

Both teams combined for just 10 shots on goal, which would end up being less than what Winnipeg shot alone in the following period.

2nd Period

After a scoreless first, Mark Scheifele put the Jets on the board first with his fifth goal of the playoffs just over five minutes into the period.

The goal has more of a story behind it.

Scheifele was questionable for this game after he learned his father had passed away on Friday. Now, his dad is probably all smiles watching the game from above the rafters.

The goal also marked Scheifele's 49th career playoff point, the same for teammates Kyle Connor and Dale Hawerchuk, who recorded the assists.

Connor recorded his 12th assist of the playoffs, now just two behind the leader in Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers).

But the Stars didn't let the Jets celebrate for too long.

Sam Steel scored his first goal of the playoffs to tie it all up 1-1 with under nine minutes to go in the period.

Heading into the second intermission, Winnipeg outhit Dallas in the first two periods 45-19 while also outshooting them 16-14.

Winnipeg tripled their shots on goal from the first (four) to the second (12).

Surprisingly, not a single penalty was called throughout the first two periods.

3rd Period and Overtime

Despite not scoring in the third period and only 11 shots on goal between both teams, it wasn't short of any nail-biting moments as both Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) and Jake Oettinger (DAL) both put on goaltending clinics, not giving an inch of room for any team's skaters to put the puck in net.

But Scheifele committed a costly penalty, and the first of the game, as time was expiring in the third period that gave Dallas almost a full power play entering overtime.

The penalty was feared to be eligible for a penalty shot, but it was a two-minute minor in the end. Going into overtime, where the Stars won the series with just 14 seconds left on the power play.

Thomas Harley ripped one top shelf for his fourth goal of the playoffs that sent the Stars crowd into a frenzy.

After the Capitals' series loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, and now the Winnipeg Jets, both conferences' No. 1 seeds have been knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Dallas Stars will take on the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals as the rematch from last year has come to fruition.
