Despite a bright start where Denmark led 2-1 after the first period, Mikael Gath's side could not prevent the USA from booking their second successive win of the tournament through a 6-3 victory in the Milano Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena on Saturday night.

Denmark otherwise had a bright start to the match when Nick Olesen pounced on a loose puck in front of Jake Oettinger’s net, just 1:40 into the opening period, to give the Danes a shock start.

However, it did not take the Americans long to respond, as Matt Boldy restored parity by wrapping the puck around the back of the net just two minutes later.

The Danes then managed to reclaim the lead with 11:16 gone on the clock when a big mistake from goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman allowed Nicholas B. Jensen to score all the way from the red line as Denmark went on to win the first period 2-1.

A little more than nine minutes into the second period, Team USA then struck back again when Brady Tkachuk rifled the puck into the net after Jack Eichel won a face-off.

The goal visibly deflated the brave fighting Danes, and just a minute later, Eichel gave the Americans the lead for the first time in the match with a well-placed wrist shot.

Bad then turned to worse for the Danes after 17:23 minutes played when Noah Hanifin got his first Olympic goal, when he reacted quickly to score on a rebound.

But with just two seconds left on the clock in the second period, a slap shot from Denmark defenseman Phillip Bruggiser managed to sneak past the right shoulder of Swayman to hand the Danes a lifeline.

Team USA continued their dominance in the third period against the tiring Danes, and it paid off when Jake Guentzel scored his first goal of the Milan Cortina Olympics to make it 5-3 a little more than seven minutes into the period.

Jack Hughes then rounded off another impressive performance from Team USA when he skated behind Denmark’s backup goalie, Frederik Dichow, to steer the puck into the back of the net via Dichow's skate.
