The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are well and truly underway. On day five, eight sets of medals will be handed out. At Flashscore, we have picked out three events you shouldn't miss: The men's super-G final, the opening of the men's ice hockey tournament, and the women's 15km biathlon final.

Alpine skiing: Men's super-G final

11:30 CET - Stelvio Ski Centre (Bormio)

If the 2025 season is anything to go by, Marco Odermatt will be the man to beat in the men's super-G event. Odermatt claimed the World Championship title in February and finished almost 300 points clear of his nearest rival, Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria, in the World Cup rankings.

Odermatt very surprisingly missed out on the podium in the men's downhill, but he will no doubt be eager to reinstall his dominance in the super-G at the challenging Stelvio race course.

He will, however, have his hands full if he is to beat Swiss compatriot Franjo von Allmen, who's been in stunning form in Bormio.

The 24-year-old Von Allmen won the downhill and added his second gold medal within 72 hours when he, along with Tanguy Nef, grabbed gold in the team combined on Monday as the event made its Olympic debut at the Games.

Ryan Cochran-Siegle's silver in Beijing four years ago is a testament that shocks may occur. Cochran-Siegle is not among the medal favourites, but he should not be underestimated, as all his podium performances have taken place in Italy.

Biathlon: Women's 15km individual final

14:15 CET - South Tyrol Arena (Rasen-Antholz)

Chasing history in her final home Games,  Dorothea Wierer will seek to win Italy's first Olympic biathlon gold when she lines up for the 15km individual race.

She and Italy's mixed relay squad have already tasted medal success at Milano Cortina 2026, when they got silver in Sunday's race together with Tommaso Giacomel, Lukas Hofer, and Lisa Vittozzi.

Wierer has four Olympic medals (three bronze and a silver) across four Games, 12 World Championship medals, and six Crystal Globes in total (two overall plus discipline titles in individual, pursuit, and mass start) as Italy’s most decorated biathlete.

The Italian will, however, face stiff competition from especially France’s Lou Jeanmonnot, who is leading the 2025/26 World Cup standings in individual sprint, as well as Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, who won the 12.5km short individual in January to underline that her form is peaking at the right time.

Also, Wierer's compatriot Lisa Vittozzi, as well as Sweden's Hanna Oberg and Germany's Franziska Preuss, will play a big role in the final.

Ice hockey: Men's tournament opener

16:40 CET - Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena (Milan)

The opening game of the men's Olympic ice hockey tournament features a high-profile clash between Finland and Slovakia, the 2022 gold and bronze medallists, respectively.

Both sides will aim to win Group B, which would hand them an automatic ticket for the quarter-finals without having to face an extra match in the play-off round.

Group A consists of Canada, Czechia, France, and Switzerland. Finland, Italy, Sweden, and Slovakia will play in Group B. Group C features Denmark, Germany, Latvia, and the United States.

For the first time since 2014, NHL players return to the Olympics, and consequently, the tournament will have world-class talent on display in Milan.

There will certainly be plenty of star power on show for the spectators in Milan with 'Captain Canada' Sidney Crosby, who scored the Golden Goal against the USA in Vancouver 2010.

Other stars who have made an impact at the Games will include Sweden’s Erik Karlsson, Finland’s Miro Heiskanen, and Slovakia’s Juraj Slafkovsky, while Connor McDavid on Team Canada and two-time Stanley Cup champion Matthew Tkachuk on Team USA will get their first chance to shine at the Olympics.
