It was billed as a clash between the top two, but Frolunda travelled to Skelleftea and proved there is just a top one in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), winning 4-2 to end their opponents' five-match winning streak.

A sixth win in a row would have taken Skelleftea to within three points of Frolunda, but the prospect of that began to slim 10 minutes in when Dominik Egli put the visitors 1-0 up.

That's how things stayed until early in the second period, when Arttu Ruotsalainen struck to silence the home crowd and double the Gothenburg side's advantage.

Oliver Okuliar got the hosts on the board with just over three minutes to play in the second, but again Frolunda dealt a crushing blow early in the third, when Noah Hasa extended the lead back to two goals.

It took less than Mikkel Aagaard less than five minutes to hit back, but if there's one thing Frolunda don't do this season, it's overtime. Skelleftea's pulling of the goaltender backfired, allowing Filip Cederqvist to make it 4-2 with an empty-netter in the dying embers.

It's three wins on the bounce now for Frolunda, while Skelleftea not only lost their winning run, but dropped back to third place as Rogle finally snapped their losing run by beating Djurgarden 4-2, maintaining a seven-point gap between them and the league leaders.

The Angelholm side were on the verge of a fourth loss in succession, but goals from Lubos Horky, Leon Bristedt and Daniel Zaar turned things around in the final period. Djurgarden sit fifth, with their last seven matches all being won by the night's home team (W3, L4).

4-2 wins were en vogue in the SHL last night - fourth-placed Vaxjo won by the same scoreline against Timra to end a run of successive overtime losses, while the visitors have now lost three in a row since beating Frolunda.

Timra missed the chance to climb into the top six and now have eighth-placed Malmo breathing down their necks following a 3-2 win for the Redhawks against Farjestad.

At the bottom, it was a bad night for HV 71 - they lost 5-1 at home to Orebro, who have now put five points between themselves and the bottom two, while Linkoping beat Brynas 2-1 to keep them in 11th place, a point further clear of relegation trouble.

To compound matters, last-placed Leksand earned a shootout win which gave them a 3-2 victory away at Lulea, moving level with HV 71 on 22 points.
