Leksand's great escape attempt in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) continues to gather pace, as they registered a seventh win in eight games by downing Frolunda 4-2 at home.

Orebro's result going against Leksand means the gap to guaranteed safety is still three points with only two rounds of matches to play, yet thanks to the same result they are still not out of the playoff race despite being cut adrift eight rounds ago.

A powerplay carried over from late in the first period allowed Leksand to take the lead 34 seconds after the restart through Lukas Vejdemo, only for Filip Cederqvist to level for Frolunda less than a minute later.

A diving call against Jacob Peterson resulted in Leksand again establishing a lead, as Max Veronneau found the net this time, but again the advantage didn't last, as Max Lindholm struck for 2-2 with eight seconds of period two to play.

However, when Vejdemo registered his second of the game seven minutes into the third, there was no response from the European champions, whose 4-2 defeat - their seventh SHL loss in nine - was confirmed late on when Michael Lindqvist found the empty net.

The bad news for Leksand was a six-pointer in the race for the 10th and final playoff place went the way of Orebro, who moved within a point of Timra in the standings with a 5-4 home win, their fifth victory in seven, as the visitors fell to a fifth successive loss.

Timra's slide down the table looked set to continue after just 10 minutes this evening, as Milton Oscarson broke the deadlock before Patrik Karlkvist doubled the advantage, and things got worse in period two when Albin Sundin was penalised and Egor Polin added a third on the powerplay.

A powerplay of their own allowed Jonathan Dahlen to pull one back 13 minutes into the second, and though it took less than two minutes for Noah Steen to restore the three-goal cushion, Timra kept pushing and Alfons Freij notched another powerplay goal to make it 4-2 with 20 minutes to go.

But three minutes into the third, Steen grabbed his second of the game to quash hopes of a comeback, not that Timra wouldn't keep fighting, as Emil Pettersson reduced the deficit before Dahlen scored his second, but with only three seconds to play.

HV 71 stayed bottom of the standings and are now guaranteed to play in the relegation play-out after their comeback hopes were put to bed in the final 20 minutes by Farjestad, who ran out 7-3 winners and moved up to seventh, just three points shy of Lulea.

That gap hasn't changed, as Lulea came from behind to win 2-1 on the road at Linkoping for their first victory in four matches. Despite a first loss in four, Linkoping are still just three points from safety, yet one outside the playoffs.

Confirming their place in the postseason are Djurgarden, who can finish no lower than the ninth place they currently occupy, going seven points clear of Timra after a terrific third-period display saw them come from 4-2 down to beat Vaxjo 6-4.

A Felix Robert hat-trick had put the Lakers in control, but four goals in the final 13 minutes - with two from Havard Salsten - earned the Stockholm side a second win in a row and a guaranteed spot in the eighth finals.

With Frolunda's loss, Skelleftea had the chance to seal first place in the regular season, but they fell to a 5-3 defeat at home at the hands of Rogle, who picked up a first three-point haul in over a month and inflicted a second loss in three on the leaders, who remain four points clear.

Finally, fifth-placed Brynas failed to put distance between themselves and the sides outside the top six as Malmo beat them 2-1 at home after a shootout. Janne Kuokkanen struck the winning penalty for the Redhawks, who drop to eighth but are still three points shy of sixth.
