TRADE ALERT: Houston Astros acquire Carlos Correa from Minnesota Twins

The Houston Astros acquired shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins in a trade on Thursday.

In return, Minnesota received pitcher Matt Mikulski, who has a 7.63 earned run average in 12 minor league games this season.

The Twins also sent $33 million in cash to help pay for Correa's remaining $104 million

Correa goes back home to Houston, where he spent the first seven years of his career. The 30-year-old is slashing .267/.319/.386 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 93 games this season.

Correa is under contract for the next three years through 2028. 

The Astros also traded for Gold Glove third baseman earlier in a deal with the Baltimore Orioles (details here). Houston is also acquiring outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Marlins.
