Real Madrid returned to the top of LaLiga thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe at Estadio Coliseum, making it eight straight wins over their neighbours.

Real have enjoyed a good start to the season, winning seven of their opening eight LaLiga games as they look to regain their league title.

At Getafe, they were expected to win comfortably, especially considering they had scored at least twice in their previous seven LaLiga games, yet they were frustrated by their opponents during the first half.

Kylian Mbappe, like so often this campaign, looked the most likely to find the back of the net for Los Blancos, but he could only fire wide from outside the box after he had a shot saved by David Soria.

Rodrygo also tested Soria from a tight angle, yet it was arguably the hosts who went closest to breaking the deadlock when Alex Sancris flashed a volley narrowly wide of the post.

After starting him on the bench, Xabi Alonso introduced Vinicius Junior at the break in an attempt to give his side a bit more impetus. Yet Madrid continued to struggle in the final third, with Mbappe looking the most likely to create an opening.

Getafe, meanwhile, managed flashes of danger, as Adrian Liso flashed a shot not far past the post. A free-kick Mbappe then flew just past the upright before a two-minute spell ultimately decided the game.

Less than a minute after coming on, Allan Nyom received a straight red card for striking Vinicius in the face off the ball, and within seconds, Madrid were in front.

Unsurprisingly, it was Mbappe who broke the deadlock, hammering home from close range despite Soria getting a strong hand to his attempt.

Getafe then went down to nine men when Alex picked up a second yellow card for another foul on Vinicius, which effectively ended the game as a contest.

The result means that Madrid have now won their past eight games against Getafe and now lead by two points at the top of the table. Their opponents, on the other hand, remain in mid-table and five points clear of the relegation zone after nine matchdays.
