The 2026 NRL season has its first coaching scalp with Anthony Seibold leaving Brookvale Oval after Manly's ugly Thursday night loss to the Roosters.

Seibold was given the flick on Friday afternoon following Manly Sea Eagles' 0-3 start to 2026.

There were ugly seasons at Brooky on Thursday night when the last five minutes of their loss to Sydney Roosters were tarnished by chants of "Seibold Out" from a group of supporters who had run out of patience with the 51-year-old Queenslander.

The 33-16 defeat to the Roosters began with Manly Sea Eagles supporters directing their vitriol at defector Daly Cherry-Evans but, after a second-half blowout in which they conceded 25 points to six to fall to a third consecutive defeat, frustrations were soon directed at the now former coach.

Seibold insisted in his post-game press conference that he did not hear the booing and chanting directed at him from his own supporters, but nonetheless appeared understandably annoyed with the questioning coming his way.

Well I can’t control that narrative, so no point wasting time on it, mate,” he said on Thursday night.

"Only Scott (club owner Scott Penn) can control that, so there’s no point me wasting any energy or time on that.

I think I’ve invested a lot of time in the club over the last three and a bit years and made a lot of sacrifice with my time, but if I’m not the right person, I’m sure Scott will tell me."

It appears that Penn did indeed deliver that message to Seibold on Friday afternoon.

Seibold was only three games into a two-year contract extension, having taken control of the first grade team in 2022.

Manly would be rooted to 17th place in the ladder were it not for a bye that kept them ahead of fellow strugglers St George Illawarra Dragons.

Seibold's successor faces the difficult task of a trip to Redcliffe to face the Dolphins, who won two of their first three games of the season, next Thursday night.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
