The Buffalo Sabres acquired center Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers in a trade deal on Friday in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Carrick, 34, has four goals and six assists through 60 games this season for the Rangers. His 10:25 average ice time is the lowest of his 10-year career since the 2018-2019 season (10:13).

The certified enforcing will be joining a Sabres team that also traded for defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn in a deal with the Winnipeg Jets (read more here).

The Sabres are currently third in the Eastern Conference with a 37-19-6 record, riding a five-game win streak - the second-best in the NHL.

Carrick was a fifth-round selection in the 2010 NHL Dratf and spent the first two seasons of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He would join the Anaheim Ducks for the next five-and-a-half years (2018-2023) before being traded the Edmonton Oilers, where he spent the rest of the 2023 season.

He signed with the Rangers ahead of the 2024 season and put up a career-high 14 assists with six goals in 80 games. The veteran center gives the Sabres some solid depth as they continue to make a shocking Stanley Cup Finals run.

They recently surpassed 80 points on the season - surpassing last year's 79 in 20 fewer games.
