The Ottawa Senators acquired forward Warren Foegele and a conditional 2026 third-round pick in a trade deal with the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

In exchange, the Kings received a 2026 second-round pick and a conditional 2026 third-round pick.

The 29-year-old left wing has seven goals and two assists through 49 games this season, following back-to-back years with at least 20 goals and 20 assists.

Foegele was selected in the third round of the 2014 Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2018-2019 season, posting two goals and one assist in two games.

He would go on to put up 10-13-10 goals respectively in the next three years with the Canes before joining the Edmonton Oilers for three seasons (2021-2023). The Ontario native played in all 82 games his first year with the Oilers, ending his tenure there with what was a career high in both goals (20) and assists (21).

A year later, Foegele joined the Kings and upped his career-highs once more with 24 goals and 22 assists.

His number being down this year could coincide with almost averaging a full two minutes less of ice time per game, being placed on injured reserve, which forced him to miss the entire month of November.

Now, he'll go from one Wild Card-contending team to another over in a different conference.

The Kings are currently two teams out of the second Western Conference Wild Card slot as they sit with a 24-22-14 record. Meanwhile, the Senators (29-22-9) sit behind three teams for the second Eastern Conference Wild Card spot.
