Mark Allen defied a comeback from Zhou Yuelong to win the English Open 9-8 after a final-frame decider in Brentwood.

Northern Ireland's Allen held leads of 6-2 and 7-3 in Sunday's final, before Zhou rattled off five frames in a row to edge in front.

Allen, though, displayed his own comeback ability by taking the last two frames to win a match lasting more than seven hours.

The success is Allen's 12th ranking title of his career and his first since the Players Championship in February 2024.

"I thought Zhou battled really hard in that second session, he played some good stuff," Allen said afterwards.

"He put me under pressure. I missed a few balls and I was nervous. I missed a few that I shouldn’t have, but at 8-7 I suddenly switched on a bit.

"It's a really good trait to have. I don't want to keep relying on it, but I felt as good as any part of the match in those last few frames.

"But I feel for Zhou. He probably deserved that for the character he showed."

Sunday's final was the fifth time during the tournament that Allen was made to battle into a final-set decider.

The 27-year-old dispatched Stuart Bingham, Ding Junhui, Elliot Slessor and Jak Jones during the week.
