Wellington Phoenix 2-3 Melbourne Victory
Giancarlo Italiano (Wellington Phoenix):
"I thought the performance was there. I felt like we made some silly errors tonight that cost us three goals. Second and third goals were terrible, particularly the way we conceded them. Prior to the second one we had worked really hard to get into the game but it was just comical. In saying that, we scored two goals. I felt as though we had some really good chances, but you can't concede in those moments. You get punished. Sometimes we get a little bit complacent - this was not the only game where we've been on top and we were just conceding at the wrong times."
Arthur Diles (Melbourne Victory):
"Really happy with the result. The performance wasn't outstanding, but it was good enough to get the points, and I think we deserved that. It puts us in a better position, but still a lot of games ahead of us and it's important that you turn up every week in this competition. Our away form has been something we've wanted to improve on and that was probably more important today than the performance - the way we can get the points away from home. Today was really timely. To score again before half-time after conceding was for me probably the game-changer, because it put the momentum back in our favour going into half-time. That response was outstanding."
Macarthur FC 2-2 Perth Glory
Mile Sterjovski (Macarthur FC):
"It's hard to take. I thought in the first half we were a little bit flat. In saying that, I think we did OK. It was a frustrating first half but the second half was all us. I felt like we created plenty of chances, hitting the post three times and putting on a lot of pressure. I really feel for our players because they deserved a lot more out of that game for the effort they put in, especially in the second half. (Filip Kurto) has been our saviour in many games, so we'll let him have this one tonight. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. We had the chance tonight to go second and in the end it was a matter of centimetres. The process was there, but sometimes we can't control the outcome."
Adam Griffiths (Perth Glory):
"I felt in the first half we were in control and had some good moments. In the second half we dropped off a little, and credit to them. We allowed Caceres to get onto the ball a bit too much and dictate the game. They (Macarthur) are a team with one loss in 11 maybe? They're a confident team playing some good football with some very good players. I felt we managed the first half really well, but yeah the second half was a little bit of a different one."
Auckland FC 1-0 Sydney FC
Steve Corica (Auckland FC):
"It's a new month. January is never good for us, even last year we lost a couple of games in January. It's good to be out of that. I think it was a complete performance over the course of 95 minutes. Defensively solid. A clean sheet was a positive because it was something we haven't done in the last few weeks and that was the reason we won the game today. If we took another chance early in the second half the game would have been dead and buried then, but overall a really complete performance."
Ufuk Talay (Sydney FC):
"Disappointed with the way we conceded from the second phase of a long throw. We switched off, didn't clear with the ball or stay with the player and allowed a tap-in. I thought we had some good moments in the first half. The boys worked hard to chase the game and get something out of it. They (Auckland) created more moments in the second half when we were trying to chase the game. Overall, the boys worked hard, but I don't think we created enough clear-cut chances to get something from it. Overall just disappointed to lose the game from that long throw."
Brisbane Roar 1-2 Central Coast Mariners
Michael Valkanis (Brisbane Roar) spoke about his red card before an abrupt end to the two-minute press conference:
"I'm really frustrated today. I came back here to Australia for my kids to have a really good life and I'm thinking 'what has happened in this country that we cannot ask a question?' It is not right that anyone is arrogant like that and doesn't answer. I don't even want to speak about the game, to tell you the truth. I am really frustrated that I was sent off after the game for no reason whatsoever. I asked him 'why did I get the yellow card?' and he told me to move away. If it's just going to be against me, just tell Brisbane Roar they don't want me coaching. It's really wrong. We ask questions on the sidelines (of the fourth official) and we don't get answers. It's like we're playing against everyone every single week. It's even frustrating for the players. I really don't know what to say, because I just think it is only fair that a question can be asked and it gets treated with respect. We have been 100% pre-judged from pre-season games onwards."
Warren Moon (Central Coast Mariners):
"We just needed a little bit more squad depth and competitions for places. That's what we've seen in the last few weeks and it harnesses an environment where people will push themselves a lot more to get in their squad. We've seen good performances. We're not getting too ahead of ourselves as we know there's a lot of hard work to come before we can talk about getting into the six (finals). It felt like we were the team that controlled the ball more in the second half and we were really disappointed with the way we conceded that goal with a sloppy turnover."
Western Sydney Wanderers 1-1 Melbourne City
Gary van Egmond (Western Sydney Wanderers):
"I think we were a lot more better with the ball, especially in the first half. We were more positive and found the solution in regards to breaking lines. Positioning can still improve in some of those moments. Second half we allowed them to start better than us and then it became very difficult to break that momentum, but in the last 10-15 minutes we finished with a flurry. We had a few things go against us tonight but they still found a way to be effective and to push the issue. So they're real positives."
Aurelio Vidmar (Melbourne City):
"I think normally you would come here and be content with one point, but it doesn't serve us much in terms of where we're sitting on the table. First half we had some difficulties, second half we came out in much better shape and deserved the goal at that point. A little bit disappointing conceding a goal with a set piece. I know we had a man down getting treatment on the sideline at that stage but we didn't deal with it well. We had some dominant periods in the second half but just couldn't score. A draw is not really something that either of us would be happy with."
Adelaide United 2-3 Newcastle Jets
Airton Andrioli (Adelaide United):
"We don't know (about Goodwin's injury). It's a groin injury but we need to see some scans first. (On the VAR disallowed goal) Is there anywhere in the world where people aren't talking about this? It's obvious, isn't it. Common sense isn't very common. I've said before if anyone wants to put a petition up to get rid of VAR, I'll sign it. It's destroying the game. We're going to come to the point where we score a goal and nobody is going say anything in the stadium, because we'll have to wait and review. We're killing the most important moment of a football match which is the goal. I'm not talking about today's result but in general. For me it's taking away the moment of the goal. Everybody comes here to see a goal being scored. Normally we're not celebrating now because we're waiting for a review. That's not how football should be."
Mark Milligan (Newcastle Jets):
"Firstly, I think it was a fantastic contest. Adelaide are a very difficult side and they definitely came to play in tough conditions. The way both sides went about the game in those tough conditions was fantastic. These players keep doing things that people don't expect them to do. I'm fortunate enough to see them every day, so I'm not really surprised, but there's a long way to go yet. I joked to Clayton to go out in the second half and score a 'proper' goal. The boys up top worked extremely hard off the ball. The best bit for me is that the players are looking around and getting an understanding of how to deal with problems that we may not have prepared for. The buy-in that I've got from the players right from the beginning is frightening. We're in a place where we believe our performance is always going to get us an opportunity to win a game. That's the belief that they are developing."
