Egyptians Al Ahly joined title-holders Pyramids in qualifying for the CAF Champions League quarter-finals with a 0-0 draw away to JS Kabylie of Algeria on Saturday.

The stalemate in Tizi Ouzou took Ahly to nine points in Group B, one more than FAR Rabat of Morocco and four more than Young Africans of Tanzania.

Fellow Egyptians Pyramids had already advanced to the last eight from Group A last week but Power Dynamos of Zambia's surprise 2-0 victory over Renaissance Sportive Berkane of Morocco in Ndola meant that the champions can secure top spot in the pool with victory over Nigerians Rivers United on Sunday.

Anas Bach scored after 85 minutes to give FAR a 1-0 home win over Young Africans in torrential rain, putting them in prime position to also reach the last eight.

But if FAR lose at Ahly next weekend in the final round and Young Africans beat Kabylie, the Moroccan and Tanzanian clubs would finish level on points and on head-to-head records.

Goal difference would decide who advances with Ahly to the knockout stage. FAR are currently on plus one and Young Africans on minus two.

Dynamos upset Berkane through second-half goals from Ronel Manyanga and Prince Mumba, with the Moroccans slamming the state of the pitch.

Victory brought the Zambians level on seven points with the Moroccans, but Berkane retained second place thanks to a superior head-to-head record.

Berkane will also have an advantage in the final round next weekend of playing at home against already-eliminated Rivers, while Dynamos travel to Pyramids.

A disappointing Group D campaign by Simba of Tanzania continued when they drew 1-1 away to Petro Luanda of Angola, a result that eliminated the Dar es Salaam club, who are winless in five matches.

Portuguese Pedro Pinto gave Petro a 13th-minute lead in Luanda that was cancelled out by Ivorian Anicet Oura on 81 minutes.

Simba were reduced to 10 men before half-time after the sending off of captain and defender Shomari Kapombe for picking up two bookings.

The draw damaged Petro's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals as they remained third, level on six points with Esperance of Tunisia, but behind on goal difference.

Stade Malien of Mali, who host Esperance in Bamako on Sunday, are the surprise leaders with eight points. They reached the group stage for the first time this season after 19 failed attempts.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
