Reigning African Women’s Player of the Year, Barbra Banda, faces a tough challenge to retain her crown at the 2025 CAF Awards.

According to the nomination list released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Zambian and Orlando Pride forward will battle Women’s AFCON Most Valuable Player Rasheedat Ajibade, fellow Zambian Racheal Kundananji, and Nigeria’s Esther Okoronkwo for the top honour.

Also shortlisted for the prestigious award are Malawi’s dynamic duo Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, Morocco’s captain Ghizlane Chebbak, and Senegal’s prolific striker Mama Diop to set up one of the most competitive races in recent CAF Awards history.

In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Nigeria and Brighton & Hove Albion star Chiamaka Nnadozie will be hoping to complete a remarkable hat-trick of wins.

However, she faces strong competition from South Africa’s Andile Dlamini, Botswana’s Sedilame Boseja, Algeria’s Chloé N’Gazi (Olympique de Marseille), and Congo’s Fideline Ndoy (TP Mazembe).

Also shortlisted are Egypt’s Habiba Emad (FC Masar), Ghana’s Cynthia Konlan (Swieqi United), Mali’s Fatoumata Karantao (USFAS Bamako), Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi (AS FAR), and Senegal’s Adji Ndiaye (AS Bambey), making it one of the most competitive fields in recent years.

Justin Madugu, who guided the Super Falcons to the 2024 African title, has been nominated for the Women’s Coach of the Year award.

She will compete against Morocco’s Lamia Boumehdi, South Africa’s Desiree Ellis, Zambia’s Carol Kanyemba, the Ivory Coast’s Adelaide Koudougnon, and Equatorial Guinea’s Genoveva Anonma for the prestigious honour.

The CAF Awards ceremony will celebrate the players, coaches, and teams that made a significant impact during the period from January 6th to October 15th, 2025.

A panel of experts comprising members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee, seasoned coaches, CAF Legends, and selected media representatives carefully shortlisted 10 nominees in each category based on their performances across all competitions.
