Borussia Dortmund extended their unbeaten H2H record against Copenhagen to five matches with a hard-fought 4-2 victory at Parken Stadium in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

Dortmund have found scoring goals rather straightforward in the UCL so far this term, having netted eight times in their two outings before this one, so it wasn’t much of a surprise that, despite making a relatively slow start, the Black and Yellows took the lead with a moment of real quality.

Having worked the ball to Felix Nmecha on the edge of the area, the midfielder showed a touch of class to escape the clutches of Elias Achouri before rifling the ball into the roof of the net.

However, having missed a great opportunity to double their advantage through Maximilian Beier, Dortmund were pegged back in rather comical fashion just after the half-hour mark when Ramy Bensebaini’s attempted clearance following Kobel’s save from former Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko diverted off fellow defender Waldemar Anton and into the net.

With the wind in their sails and their supporters right behind them, Copenhagen finished the half strongly as Junnosuke Suzuki fired just wide of the left post from inside the area, with parity the least the Danes deserved at HT.

Although the Black and Yellows weren’t at their best from an attacking perspective, the Lions will have been wary of not making the most of their positive momentum at the end of the first half against a Dortmund side that tends to find a way to win in the UCL.

And on the hour mark, their fears were realised as Lukas Lerager conceded a penalty for pulling the shirt of Serhou Guirassy, with Bensebaini making no mistake from 12 yards to continue his 100% career record from the penalty spot and restore the away side’s advantage.

Having managed to quell the threat of the hosts, Nmecha netted his second goal of the evening inside the final 15 minutes before substitute Fabio Silva opened his account for the visitors to seal victory for Niko Kovač’s side.

Substitute Viktor Dadason scored a consolation goal in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to stop Dortmund continuing their unbeaten start to this season’s UCL.

Meanwhile, Copenhagen has now gone four straight games without a victory in all competitions for the first time since March, as their four-game unbeaten run in European home matches this season came to an end.
