The end of the UEFA Women's Champions League's first-ever league phase will occur on Wednesday, with all nine matches starting concurrently. The top four places are to be decided, while three teams battle it out for the final two places.

The UWCL has not disappointed in the first season under its new format, where it mirrored that of the men's competition. All 18 teams earned at least one result, which is the second time in the group phase era where all teams avoided defeat at least once.

The sides who finish first through fourth will earn a place in the quarter-finals. The eight next best teams will compete in February's knockout round playoffs for the other four quarter-final places.

With one round to go, none of the top four places are confirmed, while three sides are competing for the final two spots in the top 12. Here is what is at stake to conclude the league phase.

Quarter-final spots: Seven teams to compete for two places

For all intents and purposes, Barcelona and OL Lyonnes will finish in the top four, as they have 13 points. They sit three points ahead of Chelsea, on 11, and three sides on 10 points. Last season's finalists head to the French capital to face Paris FC. As for Lyonnes, they host Atletico Madrid.

That leaves Chelsea, along with Juventus, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg, Arsenal, and Manchester United all chasing for the last two places.

The defending champions head to Belgium to battle OH Leuven, who are also in need of three points. While the Gunners have not fully impressed in the competition so far, they can still end it on a high. Currently on nine points, Arsenal will need a big win, as well as some help to qualify for the quarter-finals directly.

Wolfsburg and Chelsea will play perhaps the match of the round, with the Frauen Bundesliga outfit two points behind their opponents. Should Die Wolfinnen prevail, then they just need two of Juve, Real, and Bayern to drop points. They also require Arsenal to pass their goal difference. Chelsea, meanwhile, will qualify for the quarter-finals with a win, though a draw could be enough, depending on other results.

Having suffered a 7-1 thrashing to Barcelona to start their league phase, Bayern are outside of the top four on goal difference. The German champions welcome Valerenga, needing at least one of Chelsea, Juve, or Real to lose. In that case, victory over the Norwegians would be enough for the Bavarians to avoid the knockout round playoffs.

Juventus and Real Madrid are both on 10 points and a +6 goal difference. However, the Italians edge their Spanish counterparts by virtue of having scored a goal more. If they both win, then they will require Chelsea to drop points and Lyonnes to somehow lose. If that does not happen, then goal difference may decide fourth spot, should both teams prevail.

Juve are at home versus Manchester United, while Real are on the road to take on Twente. Speaking of the Red Devils, they also have a semblance of hope to claiming a place in the top four. On nine points alongside Wolfsburg and Arsenal, they not only need to win in Italy, but would also require a swing in goal difference.

Knockout playoff spots: Three teams in the running

Maybe the only negative for this season's league phase is that five teams are already eliminated going into the final round. Benfica and PSG, who face each other, AS Roma and St. Polten - all on one point - will play their final matches in the UWCL this term. Twente, who have claimed two points thus far, are also out.

However, there are two final places up for grabs for the knockout round playoffs. Atletico Madrid, OH Leuven, and Valerenga are still in the running, with one of them to be eliminated at the end of the night.

The good news for Atleti is that they are all but assured a place in the top 12. Considering their 10-goal advantage over the two teams below them, Las Colchoneras should be through without issue. It will just be a matter of trying to finish as high up as possible.

Leuven, competing in Europe for the very first time, are on the cusp of pulling off an incredible feat. Before this, no Belgian team had ever gotten to the group stage under the previous format. Should they stun Arsenal, and/or Valerenga do not beat Bayern, they will be moving on.

Valerenga, playing in the Women's Champions League proper for the second year running, have also never progressed from this stage. Having finished second in their most recent Toppserien season, they will need to do something no team have managed to do in the group phase of this tournament: beat Bayern away. That, coupled with a Leuven draw will see them through.

All nine games kick off at 21:00 CET on Wednesday, with the draw for the knockout stages occurring on Thursday at 13:00 CET.
