Former Eredivisie side Vitesse had its professional licence revoked by the independent licensing committee of the Dutch football association (KNVB) earlier this summer after "structurally evading the licensing system" in years prior.
Vitesse appealed the decision in civil court in August, but lost the case. Earlier this week, Vitesse announced its intent to appeal the decision in court again, this time in Arnhem.
The KNVB has been the target of criticism from Vitesse fans for a long time, as fans of the Arnhem club blame the football association for their club's downfall.
Large protest in Eindhoven
On Friday, Vitesse fans gathered outside PSV's academy complex, the Herdgang, for a larger-scale protest. During the second half of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie match between Jong PSV and Jong AZ, the fans threw smoke bombs and fireworks onto the pitch.
After referee Rick Sturm stopped the match, the fans outside the ground threw more fireworks and smoke bombs onto the pitch.
Vitesse fans took to social media to claim the protests. More protests were promised by the group of Vitesse fans.
Earlier on Friday, a banner appeared outside the KNVB headquarters in Zeist, saying "No football for us, no football for you. KNVB, this is only the start."
PSV intend to press charges against the fans who threw smoke bombs and fireworks on Friday evening, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.
