Eredivisie side Ajax have reportedly renewed their interest in Santos right-back JP Chermont after soon-to-be technical director Jordi Cruyff approved of the transfer.

The 20-year-old JP Chermont has been a reported target of Ajax for longer, but negotiations with Santos were put on hold by Jordi Cruyff, who starts as Ajax's technical director on February 1st and wished to prioritise other positions of need.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko filling the left-back spot and negotiations for Velez Sarsfield winger Maher Carrizo in advanced stages, Cruyff greenlit the resumption of negotiations for Chermont. Ajax hope to finalise the signing of Chermont before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

According to Voetbal International's Tim van Duijn, Ajax want to sign the 20-year-old right-back on loan with an option to buy 80 per cent of the Brazilian's transfer rights for €3 million in the summer. Ajax intend to have Chermont join the senior squad's training sessions, but will initially have the Brazilian play for Jong Ajax.

Chermont, a 2-time Brazil Under-20 international, debuted for Santos as an 18-year-old in their Serie B game against Pasyandu in April 2024. The 20-year-old has since appeared in 50 games for Santos.
