Heracles Almelo have created a gap between themselves and the relegation zone after beating Almere City FC 2-0 in their own stadium.

Heracles entered the day with a three-game unbeaten streak and were looking to build on that away at Almere City FC.

It were the visitors who shot out the gates with Sem Scheperman getting the first big chance of the game, but his header missed accuracy on its way to Nordin Bakker's goal.

18-year-old Mats Rots opened the scoring less than ten minutes later with a fantastic rush from his own half and likewise finish from distance.

Unable to succesfully play their way through Heracles' defense, Almere City conceded yet another goal 71 minutes in when Jizz Hornkamp headed in a cross from captain Brian De Keersmaecker.

Almere City rocked a two-game unbeaten streak heading into Sunday's game but left with their thirteenth loss of the season and are now seven points off safety with a total of 10 points to their name.

Heracles, however, widen the gap to the relegation zone to five with a game in hand. The team from Almelo will continue their Eredivisie campaign at home against FC Utrecht.
