PSV had won 14 away games in a row in the Eredivisie and knew a win in Sittard would leave Ajax with an 18-point deficit to the reigning champions.
Just like in their 5-1 win over Excelsior last weekend, former Bayern wunderkind Paul Wanner opened the scoring in the first ten minutes, firing the ball under Matthijs Branderhorst to swiftly get PSV off the mark.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Kaj Sierhuis answered magnificently for Fortuna Sittard in the 12th minute with a wondergoal, smashing the ball in the top left corner from way out.
The champions couldn't convince the rest of the way, however, with PSV only creating chances from corners as both sides headed into the break with the score at 1-1.
Chances weren't forthcoming for PSV in the second half either, with Yarek Gasiorowski and Jerdy Schouten coming closest to a second PSV goal in the first thirty minutes.
Former World Cup finalist Ivan Perisic became PSV's saviour in the 76th minute with PSV's first real clear-cut chance of the second half, calmly finishing his one-on-one with Branderhorst to finally restore the visitors' lead.
Paul Wanner looked to add a second in the final ten minutes, but saw two chances go to waste. PSV closed out the game nonetheless, extending their record streak of consecutive away wins in the Eredivisie to 15.
