PSV are set to miss star striker Ricardo Pepi for two months after the American fractured his underarm in Saturday's 5-1 win over Excelsior.

Pepi fell awkwardly onto his left arm after scoring the 2-0 in the 23rd minute, kicking his feet in agony as he stayed down.

Following a quick evaluation, Pepi, who held his arm in pain, left the pitch and was replaced by Couhaib Driouech.

Shortly after PSV's 5-1 win, the team announced that Pepi had fractured his left underarm and would miss two months after undergoing surgery on Sunday.

Striker curse

Pepi's injury is his second major injury in a year's time. In January 2025, the American international suffered a knee injury that ruled him out for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

After struggling with his fitness in the early stages of the current season, Pepi returned to the team and scored eight goals in 15 Eredivisie appearances, as well as three in five UEFA Champions League games.

The injury sets PSV manager Peter Bosz back yet another striker, with back-ups Myron Boadu and Alassane Plea out for an extended period of time, too.

When PSV struggled with the striker position in the first half of the season, midfielders Guus Til and Ismael Saibari filled in. The latter, however, is currently active at AFCON with Morocco, who reached the semifinals last Friday after a 2-0 win over Cameroon.

'The lists are ready'

Ricardo Pepi could've left PSV earlier this transfer window after Premier League outfit Fulham submitted a bid worth €25 million, but it was swiftly rejected by PSV.

Will PSV enter the transfer market after another injury setback? "We will have to consider that," Bosz acknowledged during Saturday's post-game press conference.

"It has just happened, and I will speak to the people at the club tomorrow or on Monday."

Bosz's thoughts were mainly with Pepi, whose season took yet another hit at an unfortunate moment. "A boy who is so positive and has worked so hard. That things are going against him right now. I feel for him."

General manager Marcel Brands revealed on Sunday that PSV are ready to enter the transfer market: "The lists are ready, we have to see if anything is possible. But even if we did sign someone, they wouldn't be allowed to play in the Champions League. That's very disappointing," he said at ESPN's Goedemorgen Eredivisie.

PSV lead the Eredivisie by 14 points following Saturday's win.
