Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax have been linked to former Malmo FF boss Henrik Rydstrom in their search for a new manager.

Ajax have been without a manager since John Heitinga was fired on November 6th, following a string of poor results and a similarly poor start to the season across all competitions. Caretaker manager Fred Grim has held the reins since.

According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Ajax have contacted former Malmo FF manager Henrik Rydstrom in their search for a new manager. Rydstrom led Malmo to two league titles and a Swedish cup win before being fired in his third season with the club after a disappointing campaign - the record champions were in sixth place at the time of Rydstrom's sacking - and painful home defeat to Ludogorets in the UEFA Europa League.

Expressen's Anel Avdic reported that "several sources" had told the Swedish news outlet that Ajax had contacted Rydstrom, who revealed in November that several clubs had already approached him: "You could say that a lot of things are happening. Maybe that's why I'm calm. There are a lot of options," Rydstrom told Dagens Nyheter.

"Now it's more about choosing the right one. Of course, that equation includes making sure it works for the family."

Ajax have fallen in both the Eredivisie and UEFA Champions League standings, dropping to fifth in the domestic league while losing all five of their UEFA Champions League games, leaving them bottom of the table.
