Austrian outfit Sturm Graz will be looking to avenge a bitter 0-2 defeat in the 2022/23 Europea League group stage campaign against FC Midtjylland when they clash with Mike Tullberg's men in the first round of the same tournament on Wednesday evening in Herning.
Tomi Horvat, Jon Gorenc Stankovic, Otar Kiteishvili, Stefan Hierländer, and Alexandar Borkovic are the only players left at Sturm Graz following that game, but Slovenian international midfielder Horvat recalls the game very well.
The defeat in the MCH Arena in Herning was associated with the most unfortunate exit from the Europa League.
All four teams finished the group with eight points each. Feyenoord and FC Midtjylland proceeded to the next phase while Lazio and Sturm Graz crashed out of the tournament.
"If we had won, we would have been in a really good position. In the end, it wasn't enough after a tough game. I think we have to take revenge for this defeat", says Horvat to Kleine Zeitung.
Sturm Graz can travel to Herning with plenty of confidence in the bag after they bagged an impressive 2-0 win away against RB Salzburg on Saturday to move into second spot in the Austrian League.
Horvat was one of the goal scorers on Saturday, and like in Salzburg, he is likely to replace Georgian international Otar Kiteishvili, who will be absent in Herning as he has travelled back to his mother country for personal reasons.
In the absence of Otar Kiteishvili, the Slovenian midfielder recently started at number ten, his preferred position: "I like it there because I can play a little higher than number eight and am therefore closer to the goal. But I feel good in both positions."
The match will kick off on 18.45 CET on Wednesday evening.
