Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken to the media as he prepares to take on Salford in the FA Cup.

City welcome League Two outfit Salford City to the Etihad Stadium this weekend as the two sides clash for the first time since the 8-0 home victory last season.

The Citizens have reached at least the semi-final stage of the competition in eight of the last nine seasons under Guardiola as they seek to progress once more.

Haaland unlikely to start

Asked first on team news, Guardiola commented on Erling Haaland, who grabbed a goal against Fulham in midweek, is unlikely to start the clash as City turn to Omar Marmoush.

"Erling is not 100 per cent. We will see today how he feels. It is not a big issue the doctor said to me, but he had some disturbance during the game and that's why he didn't play in the second half.

"We will see today (if he will be involved tomorrow)."

On John Stones: “The last game he played was against Leeds. We will see tomorrow if he plays.”

Man City must focus to reach the next round

Salford have suffered only two defeats in their last 13 games over the last 10 weeks and will find confidence in such a statistic heading into what is a monumental challenge.

Speaking on the League Two side, Guardiola says his side must be vigilant and focus on getting a ticket to the next round.

“My priority is to beat Salford and get to the next round. Unfortunately, we could not win the last two finals. We are exhausted, and we can have a break after tomorrow.

“Of course, they are in League Two, and we play at home. We can take nothing for granted, we have to do a job. Always we have to be really good.”

Silva to leave?

Lastly, questions turned to Bernardo Silva and his connections with a summer move away from the Premier League. Guardiola was quick to praise the club icon who has won everything possible at the club in what seems to be the end of an era.

"He can talk but he leads by example. Anyone in the dressing room cannot deny that. I have no idea about the future. I told him when he has an idea he should come and tell me. Until then, I don't know."
