Getafe have won their opening two matches of a LaLiga season for only the second time in their history after a 2-1 success away at Sevilla, whose back-to-back losses to begin the new campaign leave them with one win in their last 13 league games.

Before kick-off, Loic Bade said his farewells to the home fans ahead of his departure to Bayer Leverkusen, and 15 minutes in, it was clear Sevilla were still struggling without the centre-back.

A corner was played short to Adrian Liso, who drifted infield and took aim from just outside the box. His shot took a deflection, diverting it past Orjan Nyland for his second goal in as many games.

The goal was cruel on Sevilla, who had been on top and came close to an opener after 10 minutes, when Dodi Lukebakio cushioned the ball down into the path of Juanlu Sanchez, and his fierce strike drifted just wide of the post.

Akor Adams was wasteful as Los Nervionenses struggled to create against Jose Bordalas’ side, until the 45th minute. Sanchez whipped a superb cross from the right side towards the back post, where Jose Angel Carmona came flying in and his pressure forced Juan Iglesias to divert the ball into his own net.

Getafe almost regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when Nyland spilt Liso’s shot and denied Mauro Arambarri on the rebound, before Christantus Uche couldn’t find the target when following up.

Five minutes after the break, Los Azulones did get the goal to give them the lead again. Luis Milla worked hard in the middle to protect the ball, before conjuring an incisive through ball to release Liso, who steered his strike coolly past Nyland.

Matias Almeyda’s side were quicker to respond to going behind this time, forcing David Soria into saving an Andres Castrin header and a Nemanja Gudelj drive either side of the hour mark.

A record of one home win in 2025 looked set to remain when Isaac Romero struck the post before Castrin headed over as the final 20 minutes began.

The hosts’ pressure remained, and five minutes from time it looked to have paid off when Adams fired past Soria, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.

The Madrid side held on for a ninth away win in their last 13 and a third H2H victory in their last six.
