Strasbourg captain Emmanuel Emegha has apologised for the statement that cost him a one-game suspension from the club.

The Ligue 1 outfit suspended Emegha, reportedly after recent comments about the club and city. According to L'Equipe, Emegha said Strasbourg lost games against bigger clubs because he was injured and that he thought Strasbourg was in Germany before his transfer from Sturm Graz.

Strasbourg announced on Wednesday that the club had handed club captain Emegha a one-game suspension for his statement, meaning he won't play in Saturday's clashPaul Winters with Toulouse.

The Dutch striker apologised for his statements in an Instagram post, saying he accepted and understood the suspension.

"I'm 22 years old, I've made mistakes, and I know I still have a lot to learn. And I have to learn from this," Emegha said.

"I know I need to do better, and I will do better, on the pitch and off it, to represent the club. That's important to me."

Emegha is playing his last games for Strasbourg before moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2026. Fans criticised manager Liam Rosenior's decision to hand Emegha the captain's armband. The striker is still proud of being the club captain, however.

"I want to make it clear that I never intended to hurt anyone. Since arriving here at 19, I have always given everything for Strasbourg. I'm proud to play for Racing, and I'm proud to wear the captain's armband.

"Last weekend, when I stepped onto the pitch, it was the biggest emotion I've ever felt as a Strasbourg player. The applause when I came on, the kids cheering me during the warm-up... it truly moved me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

The two-time Netherlands international said he'd met club owner Marc Keller, whom he thanked for his advice, and that he'll support the team during this weekend's Ligue 1 game in Toulouse.

"Sometimes my words can be misunderstood, especially if you don't know me. But one thing is certain: I have the utmost respect for Strasbourg, for Alsace, for La Meinau, for our supporters, for my teammates, and for the entire club. On Saturday, I'll be behind the team like a supporter at 200%."
