Mason Greenwood’s form at Marseille is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore - and the prospect of a move to one of Europe’s top clubs is slowly turning into a realistic possibility.

Any club considering a transfer must weigh up the significant backlash that would accompany such a decision.

The off-pitch implications remain substantial, but on the field Greenwood is currently one of the most productive forwards in Europe.

Greenwood remains a controversial figure. While at Manchester United, he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He denied all charges, and the case was later dropped after a key witness withdrew.

His United career effectively ended there. Greenwood resumed his playing career on loan at Getafe before making a permanent switch to Marseille in July 2024. The move immediately sparked criticism - Marseille’s mayor even labelled the signing a “disgrace” - yet Greenwood has performed on the pitch.

He has produced 45 goal involvements in 56 matches for Marseille, scoring 35 goals and providing ten assists. He currently leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts and scored two more goals on Tuesday night in a 3–2 Champions League win over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Scouts from several major clubs have been tracking his performances closely as they assess both the sporting value and the risks attached.

In England, Tottenham and West Ham have been linked, but sources continue to downplay the chances of a Premier League return. Given the public scrutiny that would follow, insiders continue to believe a move back to English football appears unlikely.

Elsewhere in Europe, the scenario is viewed as more feasible. Greenwood has settled well in France and previously played in Spain with Getafe. Fellow LaLiga sides Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have both monitored him, and sources suggest there is genuine interest based purely on footballing merit.

For now, Greenwood remains focused on Marseille. But if his form continues, the summer could bring offers from clubs playing on a bigger stage.
