Burnley ended their 16-match winless league just before they equalled their club record of 17 games in the top flight by producing a sensational first-half comeback to overturn a 2-0 deficit and beat Crystal Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park.

After a 10-minute delay to kick-off following the late arrival of the Burnley team bus, it was perhaps little surprise to see a slow start to the game.

It was Palace doing most of the early running as they probed to break down the Clarets’ low block, but the closest they came in the opening stages was a Tyrick Mitchell header that dropped a yard or two wide of the post.

It only felt like a matter of time before the Eagles hit the front, and the opener duly arrived when a deft Adam Wharton ball in behind allowed January recruit Jørgen Strand Larsen to race clear on goal and hammer home his first strike in Palace colours.

Burnley’s best route to goal was always likely to be through a Palace mistake, and even when Oliver Glasner’s men did make one when they gave the ball away outside their own box, the unmarked Zian Flemming wildly blazed over the bar from 12 yards.

It was a miss which ultimately proved costly as Strand Larsen picked up his second of the evening when he stooped down to direct Jefferson Lerma’s delivery into the far corner.

Goals have been few and far between for Burnley this season, but they managed to halve the arrears five minutes before the break when Marcus Edwards cut the ball back for Hannibal Mejbri to sweep home his first Premier League goal for the club.

Palace’s advantage was wiped out completely before the break, as the Clarets first levelled the scores when Jaidon Anthony’s marauding run down the left ended with him finding the near post, just a matter of minutes before Burnley incredibly established a half-time lead.

Bashir Humphreys’ header was saved by Dean Henderson, but only onto an unsuspecting Lerma, who will ultimately be credited with an own goal.

Having clearly taken a rocket from boss Glasner, Palace flew out of the traps in the second half and came close to an instant equaliser when Daniel Muñoz ghosted in down the right and thundered an effort into the side netting.

Chances were hardly flowing for Palace, but a huge one went begging 20 minutes from time when Daichi Kamada charged in at the far post and powered a header wide with the goal at his mercy.

Burnley came under some immense pressure in the closing stages, but they stood firm to secure three points which may not do much to aid their survival hopes, but helped relieve some of the pressure on Scott Parker.

Another disappointing evening for Palace means their winless home run now stands at nine matches.
