Thomas Frank is losing an increasingly desperate battle to save his Tottenham Hotspur job.

Sources close to the club acknowledge that Tuesday's damaging 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United has pushed the Dane closer to the brink, with pressure mounting at every level of the hierarchy.

Spurs now sit just five points above the relegation zone with 12 league games remaining, a position that few would have imagined at this stage of the season.

Frank struck a defiant note after the latest setback, saying: "I understand the frustration, and the easiest thing is to point at me. That’s part of the job, unfortunately.

"I will work day and night to turn this around, but it is not just one person. There is no doubt we need to improve, and I need to be part of that."

The Tottenham boss also revealed he held talks with the club’s owners on Monday and insisted he does not believe his position is under immediate threat.

However, that confidence is not widely shared behind the scenes. Figures around the club feel the Newcastle defeat may prove to be the final straw in a season that has steadily unravelled.

There was an expectation that Spurs would show renewed ambition in the January transfer window, but plans to strengthen Frank’s squad with top-level reinforcements ultimately failed to materialise.

While the hierarchy have shown patience in allowing Frank time to reverse the decline, there is a growing sense that the slump - highlighted by a 15th league defeat of the campaign - has reached a critical point.

Some sources believe a decision could be taken within the next 24 hours, as Spurs confront the stark reality that they are yet to win a Premier League game in 2026.
