The international break is over, and that means all of Europe's top football leagues are back with a bang this weekend. What's more, there are some massive derbies to enjoy, along with the EuroBasket final and a Super Bowl rematch!

Here's what our news editors are circling in their calendars this weekend:

Saturday, September 13th

Juventus vs Inter - 18:00 CET

After just missing out on the Serie A title last season, Inter face their first tough test of the season as they travel to Turin to take on Juventus in the fabled Derby d’Italia.

The side from Milan have looked shaky to begin the season with a shock defeat to Udinese last time out. Meanwhile, for the ‘Old Lady’, it’s been a good start, winning both of their opening fixtures as they look to keep their perfect record on Saturday.

The battle in this game will be between the forwards. Dusan Vlahovic, likely to be in contract negotiations in the near future - read more on that here - has two from two so far this campaign.

The Serb sits atop the Serie A scoring chart alongside Inter’s Marcus Thuram. The latter will need to be on top form if his team are to get a positive result from their travels.

In recent clashes, it is Inter who slightly hold sway, losing just one of the last six meetings (the last one), but they have won just once in their last 12 visits to Turin.

This is arguably one of Serie A’s biggest games of the season - it may be the 254th meeting between the pair, but it’s one not to miss.

Manchester City vs Manchester United - 17:30 CET

The Manchester derby is always one of the standout matches in the football calendar, and the latest chapter in this fierce rivalry takes centre stage on Sunday afternoon. Despite it being an early-season encounter, the importance of claiming all three points won't be lost on either Pep Guardiola or Ruben Amorim.

After a poor start to the 2025/26 season from both Manchester clubs, the pressure is on to deliver performances in a crucial month ahead before the next international break. And whilst Amorim needs to start winning games as pressure grows on his future at Old Trafford, Guardiola's side simply can't afford to lose for a third time in their first four matches if they have any serious hopes of mounting a title challenge.

After an impressive opening weekend dismantling of Wolves, Man City were stunned at home to Tottenham and then away to Brighton in a deeply damaging two weeks for the club. A big performance and three points are needed to kick-start a Premier League campaign that has started in a similar vein to large periods of 2024/25.

Guardiola has a squad more than capable of turning things around, too, after making some smart signings in the summer window to give new life to an already competitive side. They simply need to find that winning formula again and fast.

What better way to do it than on Super Sunday against your bitter city rivals?

Man Utd, meanwhile, might not be expected to win (despite their good record against City in recent years); however, after a slow start to the season themselves, a bad loss would see Amorim face intense scrutiny once more, and that is the last thing INEOS needs. United could desperately do with a stable period, with more wins than defeats, and although away at the Etihad wouldn't be a must-win in normal circumstances, these aren't normal times.

Amorim's Premier League record is horrendous, and it has shown no signs of improvement early this season. The Portuguese coach needs things to click together fast to give United supporters a reason to keep believing in him. That requires good performances, a lot more goals, and consistent results.

The Manchester derby keeps its intrigue despite neither City nor United being a dominant force for the first time in a very long time, and the latest battle between red and blue is box-office Sunday afternoon viewing.

Germany vs Turkey (EuroBasket Final) - 20:00 CET

This Sunday, the EuroBasket champion will be crowned, and there is very little doubt amongst all onlookers that the best two teams - by some distance - are into the Final.

Germany and Turkey have enjoyed imperious campaigns, both reaching the showpiece event, having won all eight of their games. In truth, they have never looked in any sort of danger at all in the knockout stages, but someone's unbeaten record is going to have to come to an end.

World champions Germany's superb blend of European teamwork and the individuality of the NBA - led by Franz Wagner and Dennis Schroder - has been responsible for their rise as a basketball nation. They are the favourites heading into the final as they eye just their second EuroBasket crown.

They comfortably saw off surprise packages Finland 98-86 in the Semi-Finals, and Schroder starred with 26 points and 12 assists.

However, Turkey are playing some incredible basketball too, and have so much momentum behind them. The nation is watching with so much excitement and hope, as they eye their maiden EuroBasket title, something which looks a real possibility.

On their side, they have the leading EuroBasket MVP candidate, Houston Rockets' Alperen Sengun, who has been almost unplayable as the star man of a Turkish team who have been supreme on both ends of the floor. A crushing 94-68 victory over Greece in the Semi-Finals demonstrated that fact.

The Final is sure to be an absolutely brilliant occasion because of how evenly matched both teams are. Make sure you are tuned in!

AC Milan vs Bologna - 20:45 CET

Sunday evening is often a great time to sit back and enjoy some of the best European football on offer. That is true again this week with Barcelona playing at home and Lyon away, both in the prime-time slots. However, our attention is drawn to Serie A once more, where the weekend wraps up with a clash between Italian giants AC Milan and upstarts Bologna in what is a rematch of last year’s Coppa Italia final.

Bologna won the cup final last year, their first major trophy since 1974, while in Serie A, both teams beat each other in 2024/25. This season, they have each won once and lost once, adding a bit of urgency to this fixture even though the season is still very young.

Milan are beginning a new era under Massimiliano Allegri, with the likes of Luka Modric brought in to bring some guile to a side that underachieved last term and are feeling pressure to perform this time around.

Bologna, meanwhile, are into their second campaign with Vincenzo Italiano at the helm, and while their ninth-place finish in the league was not ideal, that cup win guaranteed them European football and something to build on.

Footballing contexts aside, there is a fascinating and somewhat hilarious subplot to this fixture as it could throw up a meeting between two former Marseille teammates - Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe - who fell out spectacularly only a month ago in France.

The two had a dressing-room bust-up so bad that the club rushed to sell both off before the window slammed shut. Marseille manager Roberto de Zerbi remarked on the event: "I've never seen anything like it. I come from the streets, I'm used to fights, but I've never seen anything like this."

Rabiot was picked up on deadline day by Milan, after Rowe moved to Bologna. Granted, the Frenchman insisted on Friday that the two had already patched things up, but if they both get on the pitch, all eyes will still be on Rabiot vs Rowe, round two! (Insert popcorn emoji).

Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles - 22:25 CET

Kansas City hasn't lost two straight games to open a season since 2014 - never with Patrick Mahomes as quarterback. Now they're heading back home after a rough loss to the Chargers in Sao Paulo to take on the  Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch.

Philly is practically rolling with the same team they did when they won the Super Bowl, while the Chiefs have issues they need to figure out, especially after Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert practically tore down their entire defence.

And with an Eagles offence that's undeniably better than the Chargers', Kansas City will have their hands full no matter how loud the crowd can be. Philly is coming off a shockingly close win against the Dallas Cowboys, which some say they should've lost due to the latter's receivers dropping crucial passes.

And if Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy doesn't end up playing, Philly's secondary will have a much easier task of facing a battered Kansas City receiving core. Worthy was limited in practice on Thursday, so he remains questionable. But he'd undoubtedly be a key piece for the Chiefs' offence if they want to win the game.

The Eagles are 1.5-point favourites over the Chiefs. If the Chiefs lose, analytics are giving the team a 9% chance of returning to the Super Bowl.
