Napoli star Scott McTominay has won the Serie A Player of the Year award this week.

The Scotsman bagged 13 goals whilst providing six assists across all competitions under manager Antonio Conte's guidance as the Italian led Napoli to the league title.

He becomes the first Scot to be crowned Serie A’s footballer of the year as he joins the likes of Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kaka, Francesco Totti and Zinedine Zidane in the history books.

McTominay also broke Denis Law’s 63-year record for the most goals scored by a Scotsman in a single Serie A season when he bagged 12 league goals in what was the best campaign of his career so far.

Speaking after lifting the award, the former Manchester United star says his relationship with Napoli is one he cherishes.

“Coming to Napoli was an easy choice. I came to the right place. It’s sensational, it’s incredible to be here and win this award. Thank you to everyone, the team, the staff, and my teammates. My bond with Napoli is special; there are so many special places here.”

McTominay will feature once more in the Coppa Italia clash with Cagliari on Wednesday night. His move to Italy for just £25 million looks like a bargain for the Serie A side, who are once more fighting for the title this season.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
