Nigeria international and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has had successful surgery on his broken arm, the club has confirmed.

The former African Player of the Year suffered a fractured right forearm during the Turkish side’s Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

Despite attempting to play through the pain, Osimhen was taken off at the interval after medical staff identified significant swelling.

However, the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions revealed that the operation on Monday was successful.

"Our player Victor Osimhen, who was injured and unable to continue playing in our away match against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, underwent a successful operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, performed by our club doctor, Op. Dr. Yener Ince.

"We send our best wishes to our player and hope he returns to the pitch as soon as possible," a statement from the club read.

Although no specific date of return was stated, the former Lille and Napoli man could be on the sidelines for more than a month.

"Victor Osimhen, underwent a successful operation (on Monday). His recovery will be monitored daily, and our medical team will do everything necessary to ensure his return to the pitch as soon as possible. Updates will be shared with the public by our club throughout the process,” hinted Galatasaray doctor Ince.

Prior to the surgery, Osimhen had predicted his recovery timeline during a Twitch livestream session with popular social media influencer Carter Efe.

"It will take a maximum of five to six weeks. Six weeks at most, and I will be back to football," he said.

"Most of the time, it’s four weeks, then two weeks for you to train alone, gradually regain your fitness, and then you join the team.

"I’m no stranger to situations like this. I’ve been through worse: I still have about 18 screws in my face from the previous operation, and I can’t even eat normally on the right side. This injury is just a minor thing compared to what I’ve been through."

With 19 goals in 29 competitive matches this season, the Super Eagle is one of Galatasaray’s key performers and he is expected to miss the club’s crunch league battle against Fenerbahce on April 26.
