The Super Lig title race remains finely poised, as Galatasaray and Fenerbahce's star players turned up on the weekend to help their sides pick up three more points. However, Trabzonspor's hopes are all but gone.

After beating basement-dwellers Karagumruk on the last matchday, Galatasaray were in action on Sunday against Kayserispor - the team second-bottom of the Super Lig.

New signing from Napoli, Noa Lang, made his debut in the starting XI, while another new acquisition, Yaser Asprilla, started from the bench.

It was a ruthless and efficient performance from the three-time defending champions, coasting to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Kayseri.

They took the lead via an own goal before Victor Osimhen netted from the spot for his eighth goal of the league season and 200th of his career.

Gabriel Sara continued his good form with a fine finish to make it three, before Mauro Icardi came off the bench to slam home a penalty of his own, reaching double digits for the season despite almost entirely being used as a substitute.

Lang was really impressive on his debut, while Asprilla also had a lively cameo off the bench. With the Turkish transfer window still open for a few more days, they are looking to bring more players in the door, including Casa Pia's 18-year-old midfielder Renato Nhaga.

Focus shifted to Fenerbahce, who had a tricky trip to Kocaelispor on Monday. The latter were promoted to the Super Lig after a successful 2024/25 campaign, and have been mighty impressive this season under former Galatasaray star Selcuk Inan, sitting in the top half of the table.

In truth, it was a pretty drab affair, but a moment of magic from Marco Asensio proved to be the decisive moment.

On the stroke of half time, with the game locked at 0-0 and Fenerbahce failing to create any real chances, the Spaniard cut in onto his left foot, before thundering the ball in off the bar from long range. It was an astonishing strike.

With nine goals and six assists in just 16 Super Lig games this season, Asensio continues to be their talisman.

The second half continued in a very similar fashion with little going on, until Nelson Semedo put in a cross for Dorgeles Nene to finish, sealing a solid 2-0 win for Fener and moving them back within three points of Galatasaray.

There has been disappointment off the pitch for the club, though, after they were pipped to Ademola Lookman by Atletico Madrid, as well as missing out on the signing of N'Golo Kante due to some last-minute paperwork issues.

Trabzonspor slip out of the race

Trabzonspor's hopes of winning the Super Lig title are all but gone, with a 1-1 draw away at Antalyaspor seeing them slip seven points off the summit. Not an insurmountable lead, but one that is unlikely to be clawed back, given the relentless nature of those above them.

It was a dramatic game, as Antalyaspor took the lead in the first half courtesy of Sander van de Streek. However, Paul Onuachu levelled in the second half with a penalty to continue his superb season, scoring 13 times in the league.

But the Nigerian was to go from hero to zero, as with 10 minutes left, he missed the chance to put Trabzon up after missing from the penalty spot this time around.

Even if Trabzon don't win the league, they must focus on securing a third-place finish, which would represent a great season for them and a step in the right direction.

Goztepe remain on their tails, just three points behind them, while Besiktas are six points off third.
