Trabzonspor and Besiktas had to settle for a draw after playing out one of the games of the Super Lig season on the weekend, but Galatasaray and Fenerbahce had no issues as they cruised to comfortable wins.

In a heavyweight matchup on Sunday evening, title-challenging Trabzonspor took on a Besiktas side struggling for form and confidence.

Considering that Trabzon were unbeaten since September, and Besiktas had just three wins in their previous nine games, all signs pointed to a home win.

Instead, it was Besiktas who totally dominated the opening half an hour, putting on a counter-attacking masterclass to blow Trabzon away.

Goals from Tammy Abraham and the impressive Vaclav Cerny put the away side two goals up, before an in-form Ernest Muci scored against his former club to reduce the deficit.

But on the half-hour mark, Cerny scored again to put Besiktas 3-1 up, and in a really strong position.

However, the game flipped on its head in the 38th minute, when El Bilal Toure was sent off for Besiktas for a supposed dangerous challenge. It was extremely harsh and, in my opinion, unquestionably the wrong decision.

Such is the dismal quality of refereeing in Turkey and the consistently poor decisions they make; it came as no surprise, though. It was not what Sergen Yalcin's side deserved at all

From that point on, Trabzon took control of the game. Christ Inao Oulai made it 3-2 with around half an hour left of the game after the ball fortuitously deflected in off him, before Oleksandr Zubkov completed the comeback with a fine finish.

With 10 minutes to go, Trabzonspor will be devastated that they couldn't find the winner, missing several big chances and hitting the woodwork.

In the end, the game ended 3-3, and it feels like neither team would have been happy with the result, all things considered.

As you can imagine, Bestikas were furious with the referee after the game, with coach Sergen saying: "Today, rather than a football match, there was a theatre play".

As a result, Trabzon fell further behind the league leaders, while Besiktas remain in fifth place.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahce cruise

On Saturday, Galatasaray continued to lead the charge at the summit of the Super Lig as they clinched a 4-1 win over Antalyaspor, as Leroy Sane, Rolland Sallai, Victor Osimhen, and Mauro Icardi all got on the scoresheet.

Sane continued his really strong form, finally looking settled and at home in a Galatasaray shirt. It was also the eighth goal of the Super Lig season for Icardi, which is impressive considering that he has been coming off the bench for most of the campaign.

It'll be a really important few weeks for the Argentine. With Osimhen heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations, he will need to step up in his absence.

The following day, Fenerbahce eased past Konyaspor 4-0, as they remain the only unbeaten side left in the league.

Anderson Talisca bagged a brace, just days after netting a Europa League hat-trick against Brann. Mert Muldur and Marco Asensio were the other goal scorers.

The gap at the top between the two teams is three points, and Galatasaray simply refuse to relinquish their position there. With just one more weekend until the winter break, a point in their next game will guarantee they head into the new year as the team to catch.
