Three-time defending Super Lig champions Galatasaray were not at their best despite cruising to a comfortable win, while Fenerbahce got their season underway with a tepid and disappointing goalless draw. Meanwhile, Besiktas needed a last-gasp strike to get three points on the board.

Just like in the opening gameweek, Galatasaray were given a Friday evening fixture, as they played their first home match of the season against newly-promoted Karagumruk. And in a similar fashion to their clash against Gaziantep, 'Cimbom' eased to a relatively straightforward 3-0 win against their 10-man opponent.

Baris Alper Yilmaz - who was filling in up front once again - gave his side the lead with a fine finish early on, continuing his electric start to the season.

In the 23rd minute, Karagumruk had Marius Doh sent off for a really ugly tackle on Davinson Sanchez, and that was basically the game done and dusted.

However, Galatasaray were struggling to really open up their opponents' defence, and they had goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc to thank after he made a massive save to keep them in the lead. They were clearly missing an extra bit of quality in the final third.

On came Victor Osimhen in the second half, making his first appearance since signing for the club on a permanent basis. His relentlessness and class made the world of difference, and soon it was 2-0 after Fatih Kurucuk put into his own goal to prevent Osimhen from a simple tap-in.

Then, the moment of the game. After 281 days out after suffering a ligament injury, club icon and captain Mauro Icardi was brought on, much to the delight of the home fans.

And to cap things off, the Argentine scored on his return, putting the ball into an open net after some really unselfish play from Lucas Torreira. He soaked in the applause of a euphoric fan base.

A bit complacent at times, Galatasaray clinched the win to make it two from two to start the season. Osimhen and Icardi are back, and the vibes are sky-high around the club. A lot of reasons to be positive for supporters.

Their weekend was made even better, as fierce rivals Fenerbahce were held to a 0-0 draw away at Goztepe in their opening match of the season.

Coming off the back of an excellent performance in a 5-2 victory against Feyenoord in their Champions League qualifier in the middle of the week, this would have brought Fenerbahce back down to earth, reminding them of the issues they have endured under Jose Mourinho.

Frankly, Fener never looked like scoring for the whole of the game, even when they had a man advantage between the 61st and 85th minute after a Goztepe red card. Jayden Oosterwolde was then sent off with five minutes to level the playing field.

They did have a huge chance to win the match in added time, though, when they were awarded a soft penalty for a foul on Cenk Tosun. However, Anderson Talisca's spot kick was saved, so they had to settle for a draw.

The flat, negative way Fenerbahce played has been consistent since Mourinho took over. In a lot of games, they just struggle to find a way to score goals and lack inspiration. Incredibly, Talisca's penalty was their only shot on target all game, symbolising that point.

Both Jhon Duran and Youssef En-Nesyri started up front, but neither striker could get a sniff.

Even though it's the second gameweek and just their first match of the season, dropped points aren't ideal, given the relentless nature in which Galatasaray motor on.

Rafa Silva saves Besiktas

Besiktas were minutes away from dropping points in their opening match of the season, but they had Rafa Silva to thank for sparing their blushes against Eyupspor.

Tammy Abraham bagged from the penalty spot on his Super Lig debut to open the scoring early on, while Mame Thiam continued from where he left off after last season's 15-goal campaign, levelling proceedings soon after.

Besiktas played well and continued to knock on the door, but were unable to find the goal they needed. The last 10 minutes were utter carnage as they threw men forward to try and find a winner.

However, up step Rafa, who spun his defender superbly in the 96th minute, before thumping the ball into the back of the net with venom to snatch a 2-1 win.

It was an utterly vital goal, because eyes are on head coach Ola Gunnar Solskjaer after a poor end to last season and the humiliating defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in their Europa League qualifier a few weeks ago. A poor result here would have put him under instant pressure.

Meanwhile, Trabzonspor made it back-to-back wins as they edged to a tight 1-0 win at Kasimpasa.

However, much like the 1-0 win in their first game, it was far from convincing. There was an overall lack of quality and cohesion in the final third, and Fatih Tekke will be looking for improvement from his team.

Konyaspor forward Alassane Ndao is the Flashscore Player of the Week, according to our very own internal ratings system, after bagging a goal and registering an assist in his side's 3-0 win over Gaziantep.

Galatasaray trio Baris, Torreira and Gabriel Sara also find a spot in the team, while Besiktas pair, Rafa and Gabriel Paulista, make the starting XI too.

Fenerbahce centre back Milan Skriniar is in the heart of defence after his clean sheet against Goztepe.
