After their disappointing 3-2 home defeat against Sonderjyske, AGF got back to winning ways on Friday night when they cruised to a 2-0 win away against Silkeborg to recapture the top spot in the Danish Superliga.

AGF won 2-0 over Silkeborg on Friday night after goals from Rasmus Carstensen and Markus Solbakken at JYSK Park.

The visitors could easily have added to the scoreline, but great goalkeeping from Nicolai Larsen kept the tension alive on a cold evening in Silkeborg.

Thanks to the win, AGF recaptured the top spot in the Danish Superliga, but both FC Midtjylland and Brondby can overtake the Aarhus outfit with wins on Sunday, as only two points separate the top teams.

The defeat also meant that Silkeborg dropped to ninth spot in a very close table.

AGF otherwise had to manage without the Norwegian profile Kristian Arnstad, who was suspended for the match.

For the home side, New Zealand international midfielder Callum McCowatt, who has been out with a minor injury, began on Silkeborg's bench. McCowatt was thrown into action after an hour.

With eight goals, McCowatt shares second place on the Superliga's top scorer list with AGF's Tobias Bech, who squandered a huge chance to score his ninth goal when Rasmus Carstensen produced a superb delivery for the unmarked Bech, but with the goal at his mercy, Bech pushed the ball over the bar.

Then, after 33 minutes, AGF took the lead when a set piece landed at the feet of Carstensen, who hammered the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.

In Kristian Arnstad's absence, Sebastian Jorgensen was given the chance from the start by AGF coach Jakob Poulsen. Several times at the start of the second half, he came close to scoring, but Nicolai Larsen was alert in the Silkeborg goal to prevent further damage.

With about ten minutes left of the match, the visitors sealed the three points when the only 17-year-old substitute, Tomas Kristjansson, drove the ball forward with an excellent solo run, and as Kristjansson's shot on goal was blocked, the ball landed kindly at the feet of the onrushing Norwegian midfielder Markus Solbakken, who doubled the lead.
