FC Midtjylland on Sunday suffered a big blow to their ambitions of winning the Danish Championship title when they suffered a sensational 1-0 defeat at home against FC Nordsjaelland. In Odense, FC Copenhagen were plunged back into crisis when they lost 2-1 at the hands of OB in relegation playoffs.

After their superb 1-0 win away against Nottingham Forest in the Europa League, the hosts went into the match as huge favorites as FC Nordsjaelland arrived in Jutland with a host of injuries.

South Korean striker Cho Gue-Sung came close to giving FC Midtjylland the lead on two occasions in the first half, but on both occasions, Andreas Hansen pulled off great saves to keep the score at bay.

Two minutes into the second half, FC Midtjylland were given a penalty when Andreas Hansen seemingly brought Denil Castillo to the ground. Still, the referee later reversed the decision after a VAR check.

FC Midtjylland struggled to bring extra pace into the game and create clear-cut chances against the well-organized visitors, who even managed to steal all three points in injury time when a long-range shot from outside the box from Levy Nene was deflected off Martin Erlic to leave Elias Olafsson helpless.

After a series of disappointing performances, FC Copenhagen got back to winning ways last weekend when they won the return leg in the Danish Cup semi-final against Viborg 2-1. Jacob Neestrup's outfit also got off to a great start in Odense after 24 minutes when a shot from Youssoufa Moukoko fell kindly at the feet of Jordan Larsson, who had an easy job slotting the ball into the net.

FC Copenhagen, however, could not keep up the bright start, and in the second half the hosts began to dominate proceedings. Twelve minutes before the end, they were rewarded for their efforts when Icelandic keeper Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson only got a poor touch to a strong Odense header, and Julius Berthel Askou reacted quickly to head the rebound into the empty net.

Four minutes before the end, the former FC Copenhagen playmaker Rasmus Falk gave the hosts the win when Rúnarsson diverted a shot from Jay Jay Grot into his path, and Falk scored easily.
