Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann is getting help for the World Cup mission from a familiar face. Dutchman Alfred Schreuder will immediately join the coaching staff of the German national team, as announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Tuesday.

Nagelsmann and Schreuder have previously worked together at Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim.

"I value Alfred highly as both a coach and a person. With his experience, he is a tremendous asset to our team as we look ahead to the upcoming World Cup," Nagelsmann is quoted in a statement from the German DFB. The 53-year-old Schreuder is expected to give standard coach Mads Buttgereit more freedom in his role.

"We chose him as an additional expert so that Mads Buttgereit can fully focus on set pieces during training. We anticipate that set pieces will play an even bigger role at this World Cup. That's why we want to put extra emphasis on them in both training and preparation," explained Nagelsmann.

Schreuder will already be part of the squad for the international matches against Switzerland on March 27 (8:45 pm) in Basel and Ghana three days later in Stuttgart (8:45 pm).

'A great honor'

"I worked very closely and successfully with Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim. Back then, as a young coach, I was inspired by his courage, ambition, and expertise. It is a great honor for me that Julian and his team have asked me to support them at the World Cup," said Schreuder.

Nagelsmann's coaching staff also includes his assistants Benjamin Glück and Benjamin Hübner, goalkeeper coaches Andreas Kronenberg and Andreas Wessels, as well as fitness coaches Nicklas Dietrich and Krunoslav Banovcic.
