Clara Tauson put her troubles at the start of the season aside as she brushed away the Hungarian Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Australian Open.

The 23-year-old tennis player had plenty of Danish support in the stands on the small and intimate court seven when she beat the Hungarian Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.

Tauson got off to a great start against the tricky Galfi, who certainly wasn't a walkover, but Tauson preserved her focus and won the decisive points of the game. The Dane only managed to get 52 % of her first serves in play, but won 88% of the points when the first serve was successful.

Tauson was more effective when the chances presented themselves. She took advantage of three out of six break points and saved both of Galfi's opportunities. Tauson also only made 13 unforced errors to Galfi's 20.

Tauson will face Polina Kudermetova from Uzbekistan in the second round. While Tauson is ranked 14th in the world, Kudermetova is ranked. 150. The two of them have never faced each other before.

Should Tauson proceed to the third round, she is likely to face the Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, who broke through last year with tournament wins in Montreal and Hong Kong last. Mboko is ranked 16th in the world.
