Title winners
Karolina Muchova is finally back in the winner's circle, as the Czech ended her six-year title drought with a closely-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory over the in-form Victoria Mboko in the Qatar Open final.
The 29-year-old was pushed hard by her teenage opponent, but Muchova showed her class and superior experience in the key moments to prevail, capturing her maiden WTA 1000 crown in the process.
It's been a long time coming for the former French Open finalist, whose only previous career title came in Seoul in 2019.
In fact, only two active players have waited longer between their first and second titles - Sorana Cirstea (13 years) and Viktorija Golubic (eight years).
Muchova is now up to 11th in the WTA rankings, three places shy of her career-high No. 8 achieved back in September 2023.
"It's been a while since I won a tournament," the Czech said during the trophy presentation in Doha. "So it's just nice to get that feeling again."
Over in Rotterdam, it was a case of third time lucky for Alex de Minaur, with the Aussie producing a razor-sharp performance to defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Having fallen short in the previous two Rotterdam finals against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, De Minaur was in no mood to pass up another opportunity, as he dismantled his Canadian opponent in just 77 minutes to claim his first-ever indoor crown.
The 26-year-old, who now has 11 singles titles to his name, jumps two spots to No. 6 in the ATP rankings as a result of his latest triumph.
Ben Shelton also secured a maiden piece of silverware indoors, as the American fended off three championship points to outlast compatriot Taylor Fritz 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a thrilling Dallas Open final.
It was a high-octane affair between the event's top two seeds, with Shelton saving all three championship points in a nervy 10th game of the final set to capture his first title of the season.
“It feels amazing. I thank God, because I needed something supernatural to end up winning this tournament with all the holes that I was in,” said the 23-year-old, who battled through four deciding sets in his five matches.
Finally, in Buenos Aires, it was a memorable week for top seed and home favourite Francisco Cerundolo, who downed second seed Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-2 in a one-sided showpiece.
Runner-up in 2021 and 2025, the Argentine held his nerve to clinch an emotional victory at the clay ATP 250 event, winning his fourth career title in the process.
Biggest strugglers
Fourth seed Coco Gauff fell at the first hurdle in Doha, as the American suffered a shock straight-sets defeat to world number 57 Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Having failed to win a set from their previous three competitive meetings, the Italian took the initiative with some aggressive hitting from the back of the court to claim the third top-10 scalp of her career.
As for Gauff, it was another underwhelming display from the two-time major champion, as her familiar frailties proved costly once again, winning a mere 25% of points behind her second serve.
It was an equally disappointing week for Joao Fonseca at the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires, with the defending champion losing his opening match 3-6, 6-3, 5-7 to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo.
The 19-year-old Brazilian, who has struggled for form and fitness at the start of 2026, is now without a competitive victory since the Paris Masters last October.
Standout moment
Doha runner-up Mboko enjoyed a truly incredible run at the WTA 1000 event, with the Canadian underlining her status as one of the sport’s most exciting young stars.
Having progressed to the fourth round of a major for the first time in Melbourne at the start of the year, the 19-year-old continued her rise with a series of eye-catching victories at the Qatar Open.
Mboko battled through a three-set epic against fellow teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva in the third round, before a stunning two-and-a-half-hour triumph over Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals.
The Canadian then dispatched Jelena Ostapenko in the last four to guarantee herself a top-10 debut in the WTA rankings - despite eventually falling to Muchova in Saturday’s showpiece.
It caps a meteoric rise for Mboko, who started the 2025 season ranked outside the top 300, but now has the most match wins on the women’s tour this year with 13.
"It's not the outcome I wanted but I think there's many positives to take away," said the teenager after her loss in the Doha final.
Best rallies
Shelton was in dazzling form at times in the Dallas final, with this particular point against Fritz a highlight.
It's no mean feat to outlast Gauff in a rally from the baseline, and Cocciaretto had all the answers in this superb point in Doha.
Upcoming events
One of the biggest tournaments on the WTA's calendar is already underway in Dubai, with Barbora Krejcikova, Linda Noskova and Diana Shnaider all claiming first-round victories on Sunday.
While excitement around the prestigious 1000 event was dampened somewhat after the withdrawals of Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, there are still plenty of heavyweight names involved, including Amanda Anisimova, Rybakina, and defending champion Andreeva.
Meanwhile, on the ATP Tour, Alcaraz and Sinner headline a star-studded field in Doha, with Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Bublik and Andrey Rublev amongst the other notable seeds.
There's also a men's 500 event in Rio de Janeiro with Cerundolo as the top-ranked player, while Fritz and Casper Ruud will fancy their chances of a title at the 250 tournament in Delray Beach.
