Clara Tauson on Thursday evening won her just second match on grass in the main draw of a major tournament, when she paved her way to the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham through a 6-4, 6-4 win against Anna Blinkova.

"She is truly a tough opponent. It's always hard when we meet. I lost a bit of my focus at the end of the second set and I think that's why I looked a bit silly a few times."

"But that's part of tennis, and I know that, so I just kept trying to keep calm, and that was decisive", said Tauson after the game.

Clara Tauson is gradually adjusting to grass tennis which earlier in her career has posed a significant challenge for her.

On Thursday, she won her second match at the WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham, when the Russian Anna Blinkova was beaten by 6-4, 6-4.

Blinkova, who is ranked 71 in the world, played well in the opening stages but later suffered an injury that clearly hampered her.

The Dane, who is ranked 23 in the world, took advantage although she delivered a somewhat unbalanced performance and came close to blowing a big lead in the second set.

Tauson began a little slow and the Russian had the edge in the opening stages of the match. But Tauson recovered her best level, when she faced two break points at 2-3.

Instead of being broken to 2-4, Tauson herself broke to 4-3 as Blinkova asked for a medical time-out with the scoreline 5-4 in Tauson's favor.

After a ten-minute break, the Russian returned with a bandage on her thigh, and she could not prevent Tauson from serving the set home for 6-4.

Blinkova seemed hampered in her movements perhaps especially in her serve and Tauson took advantage with a couple of drop shot to take a 1-0 lead in the second set.

Tauson strolled to a 4-0 lead but then began to make unnecessary mistakes, allowing Blinkova to reduce the gap to 3-4.

Blinkova even had three chances to break back to 5-5, but Tauson showed all her experience to win the match on her second match point.

In Friday's quarterfinals, second-seeded Tauson will face Polish opposition in the shape of sixth-seeded Magda Linette.

They met at the French Open a few weeks ago, where Tauson won in three sets.
