Nice's woes continue while Midtjylland go top
18 - Utrecht managed a 1-1 draw against Porto despite playing the final quarter of the contest down a man. Miguel Rodriguez's opener for the Eredivisie side was cancelled out by Borja Sainz. It marks a first point for the hosts after three successive defeats. The two second half goals came 18 minutes apart.
4 - The only match in the early kickoffs not to have a goal came in Austria as the tie between Sturm Graz and Nottingham Forest ended just as it started. It was a result that did not really help either side in their ambitions in competing for a knockout round place. For Forest, it was their fourth successive European away matches without a win (0-3-1).
3 - RB Salzburg are finally on the board in the Europa League. At the fourth time of asking, the Austrian club picked up a huge 2-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles. Both goals came in the second period for the hosts as they are off the mark. After consecutive victories, the KNVB Beker holders could not add on to their soiid start. It was a first home win in a group phase in three years for Salzburg.
7 - It is seemingly never-ending misery for OGC Nice. Once again, Les Aiglons are beaten, with Freiburg being the benefactors in a 3-1 win in France. Despite taking the lead midway through the opening half, the hosts could not hold on, conceding thrice in 13 minutes. Freiburg got to celebrate their seventh away success as they move to second spot in the league phase standings.
6 - FC Midtjylland are now top of the Europa League table after an impressive 3-1 defeat of Celtic. It took the Danes just eight minutes towards the end of the opening half for them to do their damage. They are the only club left in the competition to have a perfect record. Meanwhile, Celtic lose to a Danish club for the sixth time, having not been victorious since 2006.
16 - Filip Djuricic struck five minutes before the end for Panathinaikos, which was enough for them to edge Malmo 1-0. Just as they did on matchday 1, the Greek side managed to pull off a victory on the road. Malmo, who have had a rough season domestically, await their first win of the league phase. For Pana, it is the first time in 16 years they have won multiple group phase games in the UEL.
5 - A dominant first half from Celta Vigo paved the way for them to hand Dinamo Zagreb their first reverse of the league phase. The Spaniards triumphed 3-0 in the Croatian capital, scoring on all three of their shots on target. That is their third consecutive victory this fall, scoring three or more goals in a European away game for the fifth time.
2 - Crvena zvezda left it late, but a Marko Arnautovic penalty five minutes from time sealed a 1-0 victory over Lille. Both sides had 11 shots in the match, but it was the Austrian striker's strike from the spot that made the difference. Red Star, who have a terrible record versus French sides, won for just the second time in such matches, the other occasion coming 27 years ago.
11 - Basel claim their second win of the UEL this term as they prevailed 3-1 at home against Romania's FCSB. Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice for the Swiss champions, who played up a man from the 12th minute. FCSB's disappointment continues as they have now lost their last three. In fact, this is just the second time they lost thrice in a UEL group phase, the other occasion coming 11 years ago.
Genk claim stunning road win as Roma back to winning ways
20 - One of the late game's standout matches came in Germany, where Stuttgart earned a 2-0 victory at the expense of Feyenoord. It was a pair of late goals that made the difference in the ninth head-to-head between the two sides. The Rotterdammers continue to disappoint on the road, where they are without a win in seven (0-2-5), conceding 20 times in that run.
15 - After consecutive reverses, AS Roma are back to winning ways. The Giallorossi piled on the misery on Rangers, defeating them 2-0 at Ibrox. Matias Soule and Lorenzo Pellegrini's first half goals sent the 2023/24 finalists on their way to victory, putting them in the middle of the pack. Rangers have lost to an Italian opponent for the 15th time.
28 - Viktoria Plzen and Fenerbahce could not break one another down during their 0-0 stalemate in Czechia. Both sides are in a good spot in the league phase nevertheless, with the former still unbeaten after four matches. There were a combined 28 shots in the match - Plzen with 18 and Fener with 10 - but no one could find the breakthrough.
10 - Having gone down a man less than six minutes in, Young Boys fell apart in the second half, shipping four goals in a 4-0 reverse to PAOK Thessaloniki. Four different players found the back of the net for the Greeks in a solid victory. Young Boys are still in the top 24 midway through the league phase despite conceding 10 times so far, more than any other side.
13 - The most thrilling contest on Thursday night came in Portugal, as Genk held on to beat Sporting Braga 4-3 in a back-and-forth match. After going down at the half hour mark, the Belgians hit back with three goals. Then, a minute after conceding a second, they put in a fourth, which proved to be the difference-maker. Braga lost a home game in a group phase of a UEFA club competition for the 13th time.
8 - Bologna and Brann had to settle for a point at the Renato dall'Ara in a 0-0 draw. Charalampos Lykogiannis' red card midway through the first half made things difficult on the Italians, but they managed to hold on for a draw. They even outshot their Norwegian opponents. Bologna have still never lost in the UEFA Cup/Europa League, although eight of their 16 home ties have ended level.
29 - Ferencvaros keep up their strong performances in this season's UEL, beating Ludogorets 3-1 at home. There appears to be no stopping the Hungarian champions, who are one of five teams at this point not to have lost so far. Just as they did in the Champions League third qualifying round in August, they top their Bulgarian opponent. Fradi are now at 29 goals all-time versus Bulgarian opposition.
14 - Real Betis are victorious once more. This time, Los Verdiblancos topped Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 in an important win. Five minutes in the first half made the difference in this clash, as the hosts scored twice in that timeframe. While Lyon had the majority of the possession, they could not turn it into goals. Instead, they have been kept off the scoresheet versus a Spanish team for the 14th time.
27 - Aston Villa recover from their matchday 3 reverse with a 2-0 defeat of Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv. Dutch players Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen grabbed the goals for the Villans as they go onto nine points from four matches. Maccabi failed to do enough in this match, as they stay winless in this season's UEL. As for Villa, it was a 27th win in the UEFA Cup/Europa League.
