Virginia Tech fired football head coach Brent Pry on Sunday after the team's 0-3 start to the 2025 season.

The Hokies suffered an embarrassing 45-26 home loss to Old Dominion on Saturday, making the final straw for Pry's tenure at the university.

"We appreciate Coach Pry's efforts and service since 2021. Unfortunately, the results on the field were not acceptable and a change in leadership is necessary," said Virginia Tech president Tim Sands in a statement.

Offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery will take over as the interim head coach for Virginia Tech. The team's other two loses this season were against South Carolina (24-11) and #20 Vanderbilt (44-20).

Pry was hired ahead of the 2022 season, leading the Hokies to just one winning season, which came in 2023 (7-6). He leaves the program with a 16-24 overall record and two bowl appearances, including a win over #23 Tulane in the 2023 Military Bowl.

Pry sent off a handful of players to the NFL during his time at Virginia Tech, including, most recently, running back Bhayshul Tuten, who scored his first career NFL touchdown on Sunday for the Jacksonville Jaguars
