It was a massive weekend at the top and bottom of Europe's leagues, and these are the biggest winners and losers from it.

You can now listen to Winners and Losers here via Spotify.

Winner: Manchester City

After Arsenal's dramatic defeat at home to Bournemouth at the start of the weekend, Manchester City knew there was an opportunity for them. There was an opening in the title race at last. Pep Guardiola's side had a far from routine task on paper, but their emphatic 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge was as routine as they come.

It was also a statement: we are in this title race and going nowhere. History tells us that this is the time of the season when Manchester City come into their own, so if you give them a sniff, they will smell the scent from a mile away and chase you down like a predator catching its prey.

Arsenal have done exactly that, and with the two title candidates set to meet in a crucial match next weekend, Guardiola's men will fancy their chances of getting three points. If they do win and win their game in hand, they will draw level on points with the Gunners and from there, Man City will be huge favourites to get over the line.

Loser: Bodo/Glimt

It feels like only yesterday that Bodo/Glimt beat City 3-1 to kickstart a stunning Champions League run that saw them knock out Inter to reach the last 16. However, their fairytale start to 2026 is now very much over.

Exactly a month after having their European adventure ended by a 5-0 defeat to Sporting, they lost by the same scoreline to title rivals Viking in the fourth game of the league season. After enjoying the greatest period in their history, they've quickly been brought back down to earth with a bang.

Winner: Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich's fantastic season reached new heights at the weekend as the league leaders broke the record for the most goals scored in a Bundesliga season, and we are in April! They did it in the kind of style fitting for a season where they have scored for fun. Bayern thrashed St. Pauli 5-0 away from home to make it 105 goals in their Bundesliga campaign so far.

In doing so, they broke their own record from the 1971/72 season, where they scored 101 goals in the league season, and they still have five games to play!

Vincent Kompany is doing an incredible job, and breaking the Bundesliga goal record is surely just the start of what could turn into one of the most successful seasons in this storied club's history.

Loser: Tottenham

It feels as if Tottenham can't do anything right this season. Everything the club have tried to do to avoid a stunning relegation has backfired, and their final attempt started in typically disastrous style. Roberto De Zerbi's shock appointment during the international break after sacking interim head coach Igor Tudor was Spurs' final roll of the dice in this miserable campaign.

A difficult trip to Sunderland was never going to be an easy start to De Zerbi's reign, but the manner in which they lost was a big worry in a weekend where Spurs dropped into the relegation zone. It was a tepid and uninspiring display from Spurs, and they looked especially poor in the final third.

De Zerbi has a huge job on his hands to rescue the sinking ship that is Tottenham Hotspur, because after his first attempt, it looks very much like a battle he will lose.

Winner: Rio Ngumoha

Ngumoha is rapidly becoming the standout breakthrough star of this Premier League season. The English teenager's appearances have largely come from late cameos off the bench, but in that short time, he has always made a positive impact. It came as no surprise, then, when handed a rare start, the 16-year-old took his chance.

Ngumoha was a constant threat in his brilliant 69 minutes against Fulham, and he capped off a memorable performance with an unforgettable goal - becoming the youngest Liverpool player ever to score at Anfield. It was a crucial goal to set Liverpool on their way towards a big three points in the race for the top five.

Loser: Duje Caleta-Car

The finish could hardly have been better. He let the ball come across his body, feigned to put his foot through and then lifted it over the goalkeeper with the most delicate of dinks. There was only one problem for Real Sociedad defender Caleta-Car: it was at the wrong end of the pitch.

The own-goal from the Croatian proved costly in his side's Basque derby with Alaves, with La Real slipping to a 3-3 draw and failing to claim three points that would have ultimately moved them up into the European places.

Chances are you’re about to lose.
